Love Is Blind season 4 stars Micah Lussier and Paul Peden were never convincing with their relationship right from the pods’ stage. The two gave off enough red flags throughout their relationship, and many fans even expressed how they felt they looked more like friends than lovers.
Despite all the signs that pointed towards a future disaster, the two somehow managed to turn a blind eye to all of it and continued to stir their wobbly relationship to the finish line. Against all the odds, they eventually made it to the season finale, and the show’s viewers braced themselves for their decisions.
Although Paul and Micah had expressed some reservations, predicting which way they would swing at the altar was challenging. When it finally got to Micah’s turn to say, “I do,” she allowed Paul to go first. Micah later explained that she did that because she wanted a real show of love from Paul and didn’t want her decision to influence him in any way.
Nevertheless, Paul said he didn’t think they should proceed with their marriage. The rejection was a little much for Micah, and she left the altar in tears while Paul trailed behind her trying to comfort her. Interestingly, that didn’t mark the end of the drama from Paul and Micah’s relationship on Love Is Blind.
While speaking to the cameras about his reason for not going through with the marriage to Micah, the environmental scientist sparked controversy when he claimed he struggled with envisioning Micah as a mother because she wasn’t nurturing enough. His comments sparked a heated debate on social media, with many fans eager to give their thoughts on the trending topic.
Love Is Blind Fans Think Paul Dodged A Bullet
Following Paul’s comments about Micah not being nurturing enough to be a mom, many of the show’s viewers have jumped to his defense against some of the backlashes he received. While commenting on a reunion discussion thread on Reddit, Love Is Blind fans quickly pointed out that Paul had a valid reason for rejecting Micah.
The fans argued that starting a family was an essential branch of marriage. It is understandable for anyone to be cautious about the type of person they choose to co-parent their children. They further emphasized that it goes both ways, and it would be valid for a woman to decide not to be with a man because she feels he wouldn’t make a good parent.
Many Love is Blind fans wondered why some people criticized Paul for stating what was obvious — Micah would not make a good parent. They bolstered their claims by pointing at her terrible attitude during the show and highlighting how it starkly contrasted the nurturing qualities expected from a mother. The fans generally felt that Paul dodged a bullet by dumping Micah at the altar.
Fans Think Paul Should Have Handled It Better
Although Paul made the right decision dumping Micah at the altar, some fans believed he could have handled it better. Some Love is Blind fans felt his words might have come out misogynistic and could have been cushioned better to reflect more respect for women and even Micah. While commenting on the reunion discussion thread, one user, Resoognam, ignited another round of debate saying,
“I don’t like Micah, but this whole “not nurturing” thing gives me the ick. It’s reading kind of misogynistic like he’s just looking for a housewife or something. Would anyone ever say a man wasn’t “nurturing” enough to be a good dad?”
Many of the fans quickly defended Paul, claiming that there was nothing misogynistic about his comments. They highlighted that Paul was stoic, and it was only natural for him to feel a nurturing woman would perfectly complement him. More importantly, fans recalled how Paul mentioned he had problems expressing his emotions, so he probably would have issues with his kids.
Also, some Love Is Blind fans noted that Paul should have told Micah his reason for not wanting to marry her privately. The fans felt he threw her under the bus by revealing his reasons for dumping her without ever having raised such a concern with her throughout their relationship.
Unfortunately, lack of communication was one of the red flags that Paul and Micah’s relationship gave off. The two almost preferred to sweep things under the carpet, hoping their issues disappeared or transformed into positives over time. However, such things always find a way to blow up right in the face, which is exactly what happened at the altar.
