Vanessa Lachey’s behavior at the Love Is Blind season 4 reunion disappointed fans of the series. When Netflix announced that the Love Is Blind season 4 reunion special would air live on the streaming platform, fans couldn’t hold back their excitement as they saw it as a step in the right direction. The idea of watching the contestants provide closure on some of the more controversial moments of the show in a first-ever live reunion thrilled fans.
Crucially, season 4 of Love Is Blind featured several tense moments and many unresolved issues among the contestants needing resolution- Kwame Appiah’s flirtation with Micah Lussier in Mexico and Zack Goytowski’s messy love triangle with Bliss Poureetezadi and Irina Solomonova, Paul Peden’s decision to dump Micah which also produced several talking points that needed an explanation on the reunion episode.
Heading into the April 16 Sunday night special, fans’ interest was at an all-time high, with Netflix disclosing to the New York Times that Season 4 topped previous seasons’ opening weekends in terms of hours watched. However, all the enthusiasm died down when nearly two hours after the viewers logged on to the streaming platform, the show didn’t go live. Amid the embarrassing tech glitch, Netflix apologized to fans. A tweet from Netflix’s official Twitter account read,
“To everyone who stayed up late, woke up early, gave up their Sunday afternoon … we are incredibly sorry that the Love Is Blind Live Reunion did not turn out as we had planned…”
While the fans eventually got to watch a recorded version of the reunion special, it certainly wasn’t worth the wait, no thanks to the terrible hosting style of Nick and Vanessa Lachey. However, the latter earned the most criticism, and fans accused her of ruining the reunion.
Fans Think Vanessa Was Rude and Dismissive
The disappointment from the reunion special of Love Is Blind season 4 was too much of a bitter pill for the show’s fans to swallow. Apart from the fact that the network didn’t keep to their initial promise of airing the episode live, the abysmal performance of the show’s hosts, especially Vanessa also disappointed fans.
Love Is Blind fans have since taken to social media to vent their frustrations about Vanessa’s approach to hosting the reunions while accusing her of being rude and dismissive. On Reddit, many of the show’s fans couldn’t pass up the opportunity to take a dig at the embattled show host when a particular user launched a reunion discussion thread to talk about the reunion.
While commenting on the thread, several Redditors noted how Vanessa was out of line many times. The users mainly took exception to her treatment of Paul and criticized her for being overly offensive towards him. They also accused her of trying so hard to put words in his mouth and being rude with some of her comments. Another section of users highlighted how Vanessa focused on her opinions and rarely paid attention to what the contestants were saying. A fan, 32themoon, painted a clearer picture by saying,
“From what little I could see before Netflix booted me off, the hosts didn’t seem to be great listeners. Folks were saying they dated after the show or giving other gems, and 5 mins later, they’d pop up and ask a question as if those statements were never said.”
Some other users also slammed Vanessa’s inability to strike a balance in her hosting style. They pointed out moments when she needed to press further on specific issues and she didn’t, and then moments she should have moved on but kept harping on things.
Love Is Blind Fans Think Vanessa Took Sides
One of the most significant issues Love Is Blind fans had with Vanessa’s hosting during the reunion was that she appeared to take sides with some of the ladies — especially Jackie Bonds and Micah. She also seemed to have something against both Paul Peden and Marshall Glaze. Vanessa appeared to always be on the offensive against Paul, and even when he explained some of his comments, she incessantly tried to put words in his mouth in a way that didn’t sit well with the viewers.
Fans also noticed that she was equally antagonistic towards Marshall while she let Jackie off the hook too quickly — even though she had a lot of answers to give. Most of the users expressed their displeasure at how Vanessa treated both Paul and Marshall, with some even demanding an apology from Vanessa. A Reddit user, mistercristal led the calls for Vanessa to apologize to the duo by writing,
“I hope Vanessa issues an apology and realizes SHE made the reunion awful. I truly believe Paul and Marshall deserve an apology at the very least.”
Most users commenting on the thread agreed that Vanessa was a terrible host who always allowed her apparent bias against men to prevent her from getting to the bottom of issues. One particular user MountainAsleep2820 buttressed these claims by commenting,
“The problem is that she’s bad at instigating. She’s too biased and misses lots of expansion opportunities. She needs to learn to play devil’s advocate to get more juice in these reunions.”
Since the reunion, Love Is Blind fans have taken their displeasure at how the reunion turned out a step further by launching an online petition to remove Nick and Vanessa Lachey as the show’s hosts. The whole saga has stained a nearly-perfect season of Love Is Blind.
