Madame Web & Other Marvel Characters That Need Video Games

There are way too many Marvel characters without their own games.

The latest superhero film, Madame Web, is just around the corner, and it promises to bring the lesser-known character from the Spider-Man canon in front of the masses. In terms of video games, the impact of the Marvel superhero craze on the gaming scene hasn’t been as drastic as many might think on the surface. In the last few years, titles like The Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy have come and gone, but Marvel-related video games haven’t been as saturated as TV and film, and only the latest Spider-Man titles have really made a deep impact in terms of reception and sales.

With that being said, there are a number of iconic Marvel characters that have tragically never seen much love in the gaming world, and it may be time for many of them to receive games of their own.

Iron Fist

Due to a very successful MCU movie, Shang-Chi has mostly become Marvel’s martial arts mascot in recent years. Back when that character was more of a relic of an older age for Marvel, Iron Fist was undoubtedly the one in that role. His attempt at transitioning to an MCU character was… rough, but that doesn’t mean a beat-em-up video game wouldn’t be perfectly suited for him. In the case of a beat-em-up, a Heroes For Hire-style team-up with Luke Cage would be particularly exciting.

Moon Knight

Moon Knight has often been a cult favorite hero in the Marvel comics, consistently finding a passionate fanbase while never really having enough buzz to warrant any kind of adaptation until the recent Disney+ series. That series did see the character gain a decent profile, though, and a video game that can, at least in some way, portray to the player what goes on in the head of Marc Spector could be a really interesting experience. It would certainly have to be a heady story a-la-Alan Wake or something of the like. Hopefully, there’s some moon-throwing combat mixed in along with that, though.

Black Widow

Black Widow, in video games as often as in film, suffers from always being a side character and seldom being the star of the show. It’s worth noting that her character and abilities are well-suited to a potential solo video game, though. The espionage and mystery that come with her assassin upbringing, along with the stealth combat that would naturally fall into a game with her as the main character, could very well be a Marvel/Metal Gear hit with players.rs.

Cable

There have been plenty of X-Men games throughout the years, but not too many games focusing on individual members aside from the upcoming Insomniac Wolverine title. If there was another member of the mutant team that could pull off a solo game, it could certainly be Cable. His time-traveling antics could create a variety of level types, while his build and abilities could potentially feature unique Doom-like gameplay, and the world could always use some more games in that style.

Madame Web

Prior to Sony transforming Madame Web from an older, wise patron of the spider arts into a young and witty Dakota Johnson, the idea of this character getting a solo video game would have been very confusing to any dedicated Spider-Man fan. Not that Madame Web isn’t a beloved character; she’s just never taken the spotlight to the extent that she has it now. A Marvel character being previously obscure doesn’t mean it can’t happen, though, with the Guardians of the Galaxy being the prime example, and now that Madame Web is on the verge of potentially having a similar come up, it may be a great time to consider putting a game like that in the pipeline.

There’s already a video game, Spiderverse, going on, with Spider-Man 2 topping many Game of the Year awards lists in 2023. Both Peter Parker and Miles Morales have each received solo games within this franchise thus far, so maybe Cassandra Webb could receive a similar treatment in the future.
