‘Made Them Feel Like Criminals’: Colorado Farm Accuses Hispanic Children of Being ‘Suspicious’ in Gift Shop, Mother Claims They Were Profiled

The employee’s behavior is what’s really suspicious

While attending a farm in Colorado, a mother claims employees there accused her children of being “suspicious” as they were looking for presents at the gift shop due to them being Hispanic. “But when I raised concerns about how my brown child was treated, management couldn’t even take accountability,” the mother says on TikTok.

Posted by TikTok user Las4ncha, Deissy shared a disturbing experience she had when she visited the farm with her children. “My son and his girlfriend were trying to buy each other surprise gifts when an employee confronted them and accused them of acting suspicious,” Deissy says.

What was particularly telling, Deissy explains, is that there were several ‘white’ kids shopping there too and yet weren’t spoken to in the same manner. “In fact, there was a kid climbing a tree and he wasn’t even talked to that way,” Deissy says.

She claims she then went through a team lead and a manager, who both “defended” the employee who initially made the accusation. “I have to request an apology,” Deissy says, sounding incredibly disappointed.

Though Deissy has visited the same farm for years, Deissy then shares the question her 13-year-old son had asked regarding the experience. “Was it because I’m brown?” her son had asked. “That’s my problem with Anderson Farms,” Deissy says.

Viewers Share Experiences Online Similar to Deissy’s

Commenters on Deissy’s TikTok video were just as disturbed by her experience as she was, several of whom claimed they had similar bad run-ins with some of the staff at the farm.

Among the top comments, TikTok user Kaylauh claimed that she too was at the farm fair with her boyfriend, who is black. “You won’t believe the n-words I heard from white girls while I was in line there,” she wrote.

Another viewer, TikTok user Brenda, claimed one of the employees had called her boyfriend an “idiot” for not being able to speak English. One commenter, TikTok user H3nxxy, spoke of calling the business because of Deissy’s TikTok video. They alleged the employee said “those kids were not brown” and hung up on them.

“Definitely not taking my kids here!” said TikTok user Alice. This sentiment was shared by several other users taking steps to personally boycott the farm.

In a follow-up video, Deissy makes it clear she doesn’t want to “condemn” the farm for the “actions of a few employees.” For the most part, the staff were “amazing,” as well as the food, and gave an overall glowing review of the business. “The true problem was how they spoke to our two 13-year-old kids and made them feel like criminals,” Deissy says.

Deissy posted an email she received from the farm, stating they would be “investigating the situation.” Deissy reiterates once again she doesn’t want the business to “fail” because of a few employees.
