You can make lemonade when life gives you lemons, but it’d be awfully hard not to crash out when feral rhesus monkeys take over your wedding venue. Despite this, one bride claimed to still have a “pretty wedding,” minus the unseasonably hot weather of early autumn in Florida. The woman had booked a cozy amphitheatre at Silver Springs State Park for her big day, but local wild monkeys swarmed the area because it was shaded from the hot sun. Because these pests could infect people with deadly herpes via bite, the CDC had to shut the entire venue down.
All the Florida bride’s wedding plans had to be changed due to the unexpected invasion of herpes-spreading monkeys. Yet, her mother, the venue coordinator, and several others were still able to salvage the wedding day into a memorable experience. “It was only mildly infuriating because it was so hot that day and there was no shade in the more expensive area with comped chair rentals we were granted,” the bride explained, posting her unique wedding experience on r/mildlyinfuriating. “No one who went will forget it. Especially not the people chased by monkeys,” she laughed in the comment section.
For those who live elsewhere, it’s hard to imagine that monkeys infest some areas of the US state. “Always surprises me that Florida has wild monkeys,” remarks a Redditor. “I had no idea Florida had monkeys until I saw a TikTok the other day of monkeys bellyflopping into a river there,” added another. “That is an insane story,” expressed a third. “And also something that you would think the government would want to handle before it got even more out of control.”
A few were surprised the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention got involved at all, considering the current shutdown caused by the Trump Administration. “CDC still open for business? These must be MAGA monkeysโฆ” expressed a commenter. “Well they do have herpes,” jokingly replied the bride. At any rate, it’s a relief to know the wedding still went well despite things being thrown way off by the local wildlife.
