Depending on the destination, a long drive can become boring, especially if you’re traveling alone. Turning on the radio or listening to music or an audiobook are solid ideas, but looking at your phone is dangerous if not illegal and potentially life-threatening to yourself and others. Still, so, so many people do it, and one particular woman in Maine has sparked the ire of over a hundred thousand online users, probably more. Why, you ask? Browsing her phone while merging onto a highway.

“[It] always baffles me [that] there are people just browsing their phone while driving,” a Redditor remarked, posting a photo of the driver on her phone. Since he was riding a Greyhound bus, he had free hands and “a great vantage point on these idiots.” He continued, saying that it was “not nearly the first or even worst I’ve seen on this trip, but the parking ticket really did it for me,” referring to the lime-green ticket stuck to her windshield. And the fact that she had ignored it, was on her phone, and was driving at a high speed shows how nonchalant she was about her carelessness.

“Whenever I see this, I like to lay on my horn like something terrible is about to happen,” snarks a commenter. “[That’s] because it could be,” adds a user. And they’d be 100% right. Many people in the comment section talk about their personal experience or others they know getting into a car accident because a driver was browsing or texting on their phone while driving. Some even resulted in a person’s tragic death, which goes to show how dangerous being distracted from watching the road and holding the wheel with two hands can be. Even eating with one hand while driving can be a hazard.

As one user puts it, “the absolute worst part [is that] they are just browsing!” They go on: “[It’s] nothing even worth the accident they’re just asking to get in. No work emails, or I love yous, nope, just scrolling social media, arguably the most boring activity, all while driving because they are bored lol.” And that’s a fact: Any and every response or callback can wait, as it’s not worth endangering your and anyone else’s safety.
