Some people take the motto “the customer is always right” a bit too far, and a recent incident in Vance County, North Carolina, offers a clear example of that behavior. In a viral video, a man is seen in a gas station accusing a store clerk of discrimination before being arrested by local police after refusing to leave the place.
The video begins as another shopper starts recording the scene. A bald man wearing glasses can be seen arguing with the shopkeeper, questioning why the fried chicken he claims to have waited “an hour” for is not ready and why he is being told to leave. He also claims that he is being discriminated against for being Jewish, saying this is why the employee lied to him.
The male Karen continues to be ignored as other customers shop. However, he refuses to back down, repeatedly claiming it is discrimination and saying that “this Palestinian is ignoring me.” He also threatens to call “his lawyer” over what he describes as unfair treatment.
Eventually, a local police officer arrives and asks the man to wait outside while he speaks with the shopkeeper, but the man continues to insist that he is being discriminated against. After speaking with him for some time, the officer ultimately arrests the male Karen when he refuses to leave the premises. By the end of the video, he can be seen being carried away, saying, “I’ll leave, I’ll leave, you don’t have to hurt me.”

Social media users largely sided against the man, rejecting his claims of discrimination. Some joked that he got his “victim card revoked,” while others said he “should’ve taken no for an answer and left, but had to run his mouth.”
Others mocked his threats to call a lawyer, with one person saying, “Talking too much. If you have a lawyer on speed dial, you don’t act that way.” Some were also incredulous that the man claimed to have waited so long for gas station food, calling him an “adult baby” for his behavior.
One person summed up the general feeling on the situation, saying, “I always find it funny when they start the ‘I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I’ll leave, I promise I’ll leave’ when they’re already in cuffs and on their way into the police car. That officer was having none of his nonsense, and I love that.”
