Some people are really protective of their plants. Unfortunately for this California man, he had the bad luck of running into an aggressive male Karen. The other man, shirtless and only wearing pants, approached him in a confrontational manner. And the reason behind his foul mood? Apparently, the cameraman had been washing his car near a patch of plants, and some water had accidentally splashed onto them.
The plants were positioned right next to the black car the man was washing, and it seemed that just a bit of runoff was enough to set the shirtless man off. Pointing at his plants, the male Karen demanded that the California man not touch them. Staying calm, the man washing the car replied that the plants were on public property. He also added that he wasn’t even sure the plants were allowed to be there in the first place. That remark only escalated things further, as the male Karen seemed to take it as a personal threat.
The cameraman, clearly just trying to finish cleaning the car in peace, stated that he didn’t care about the plants and only wanted to be left alone. Despite the repeated requests to back off, the male Karen flipped him off and called him an asshole. Though the two eventually exchanged what sounded like sarcastic goodbyes, the video continued with both men still hurling passive-aggressive remarks at each other.
In another video shared by an X user, a new development unfolded. This time, a police officer appeared on the scene. It seemed the male Karen had called the cops on the California man. During the interaction, the man calmly explained that he hadn’t broken any laws.
He noted that he had taken precautions to keep the runoff and soapy water from spreading everywhere. He also defended himself, saying he had not interfered with the plants at all. At the time of the recording, it remained unclear whether the California man faced any further consequences due to the male Karen’s complaints.
Many internet users found the encounter hilarious. One joked, “Stay away from the Lorax’s trees, dude.” Others weren’t fully on either man’s side. One commenter said, “Both seem like idiots. Washing your car on the street without something to catch the runoff is against city ordinances in beach towns.”
Some also criticized the cameraman for not containing the soapy water properly. One commenter wrote, “Anytime you’re using chemicals, you’re not supposed to let them contaminate plants or sensitive areas. This guy is doing both. Honestly, I’m not mad at the homeowner since he’s only wrong about the public property part, but the car wash guy is clearly the one violating city ordinances.”
