New York City was recently hit with a historic blizzard, leaving over a foot of snow in its wake. As a driving ban had been initiated hours earlier, many ran to their windows to watch snow descend on their city. As one man awoke just before 6 AM, he recorded a plow clearing his street in the Bronx. His commentary, however, was not well-received on Reddit.
“There goes the plow going by,” he can be heard saying. “You’re going to be busier than anything, buddy.” As the plow in the video clears a path on an empty street, the man goes on narrating the scene. “And they told people to stay off the roads. They told people, ‘You’re not allowed to drive.’ But why is it, no matter what you do, there’s always one schmuck like this [Expletive], out there doing it anyway,” he says.
As a white SUV drives down the road behind the plow, he adds, “Because people don’t have the sense they were friggin born with.” He adds a few more descriptions of the scene outside before ending the video. However, on Reddit, viewers were less concerned with the blizzard. Most of them were taken aback by the man’s lack of forethought prior to posting.
A Rally For Essential Workers
One thing many commented about was the poster’s lack of consideration for essential workers. Despite a road ban, many still need to get to work. New York City may close down for most. But for hospital workers, police, and first responders, the weather is not a factor. This is something many Reddit users took it upon themselves to remind the OP. “Not sure about that one person on the road, but I work at a hospital, and they’re expecting us to drive into work in this blizzard,” one person says.
“Exactly, people like to judge based off of 0 knowledge. I work for a state hospital, and we are mandated to report to or remain at work in the event of an emergency. When it was below 0 for a whole week, and snow was falling for 7 days straight, I had to come to work 6 out of those 7 days…,” another replied. At the end of the thread, one Redditor commented like a true New Yorker. “Love how this dude assumes the person out is only out for a joyride. Ignorance.”
