They say beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and while that age-old adage rings true, what if your partner is unable to actually see? Case in point, one couple found themselves in this situation, but instead of letting it get in the way of a romantic moment, the man in question leaned into it in a big way. That’s right, during a seemingly routine trip to a restaurant, a man proposed to his blind girlfriend using the power of Braille. Pretty genius, no?

But, how did he actually do it? Well, recently, over on Reddit, user ApprehensiveWill548 shared a cute video of the loved up couple and pulled back the curtain on the cute and wholesome proposal.

Man surprises blind girlfriend by proposing marriage in Braille

The 48-second clip starts with the boyfriend lifting a stainless steel food cloche from a plate in front of the lucky lass, thus revealing her meal. However, unbeknownst to her, the dish is empty of any delicious cuisine, but is instead covered in a specific pattern of small bumps, which is, of course, Braille. Initially, the blind girlfriend picks up her fork and attempts to begin “eating” her dinner, but quickly realises that there’s not too much food on her plate.

Next, the man gently takes the fork out from his girlfriend’s hand, and she then complains, “What are you doing? Give me my fork.” He then takes her hand and places it back onto the plate filled with Braille words, to which she says, “What is that? You wrote something?“

Slowly, and with increasing excitement, the lady in question reads out the words, “Will… you… marry… me? Oh, my god. Are you serious? I can’t believe it!” Meanwhile, the boyfriend takes out a ring in a red ring case and places it on the table, takes her hand, and places it on the ring. Overcome with joy, the blind girlfriend chuckles to herself and exclaims, “Oh, yes.” Finally, the couple stand up and embrace, while the other restaurant patrons begin applauding the romantic moment they’ve witnessed.

Of course, folks over on Reddit couldn’t resist making a few lighthearted puns and quips about the romantic proposal, with one user writing:

She didn’t see it coming

A further user chimed in with an amusing comment:

Plot twist, thats just some random guy not her boyfriend.

Meanwhile, a third netizen added:

Save that plate. What a great memory you two made.
