For many, mistreating an animal is unforgivable, especially if it’s a cute and innocent dog or cat. Well, an Egyptian man at Dulles International Airport in Virginia decided to anger the internet by doing the unforgivable: kicking a K9 sniffer, a beagle named Freddy. The dog approached the traveler’s luggage, which contained over a hundred pounds of prohibited agricultural items, including meats and vegetables. Without warning, the man kicked the poor beagle so hard he sent it flying upward. According to CBS, Freddy had to be taken to the emergency room for injuries to his right rib area.

Needless to say, the Egyptian national got what was coming to him and was charged with “malicious assault on a police animal.” He ended up serving time and paid for Freddy’s medical treatment before being sent back to Egypt. Several Reddit users commented on how some cultures do an awful job at protecting animals from abuse, so it’s likely this man’s reaction was not ‘unlawful’ in his eyes. “Sadly, in many parts of the world, any and all dogs are often seen as meant for abuse,” a comment read. “This dude was talking to the agent, so he had to at least be a little “f**k your dog” about it.”
Other Redditors noted how this reaction could have just been a result of the Egyptian man’s personal vendetta against dogs. “Some people have an uncontrollable hate for dogs; I once dated a girl in college who punched my sister’s dog for no reason. She said she was terrified of dogs,” one person recalled. Terrified or not, no one is in the right to attack a docile domestic creature. “At this point, I’m in favor of deporting animal abusers instead of hard-working immigrants,” an individual says.
Some commenters pointed out that the incident could just be a reflection of the man’s poor character: “I can’t say I feel sorry for someone who kicked a dog, but man, that level of dumb impulsivity is just not a struggle I have to deal with,” remarked a user. “Wonder what that’s like. Seems like an annoying character trait to live with.” Indeed, it’s hard to think if a man who kicks dogs is a good husband, father, or friend to hang around with.
