A night that was supposed to end with a World Cup celebration turned into a viral racism controversy on a Florida sidewalk instead. Video circulating online shows an Argentina fan shouting racial slurs at a Black streamer wearing a Mexico jersey. The clip is now feeding into a larger conversation about Argentine fan conduct at this year’s tournament.
According to a viral video, a man was captured shouting racial slurs at a Black fan wearing a Mexico jersey, with a woman covering his mouth after he continued. The confrontation happened in Miami on Sunday, after Argentina’s 1-0 loss to Spain in the World Cup final, according to Atlanta Black Star.
The footage is filmed outdoors in a busy Florida entertainment district lined with palm trees, restaurants, and bars.
In the clip, the man in an Argentina jersey repeatedly tells the streamer, “you’re *expletive* black,” to which the streamer replies, “Bro. Yo, yo, yo, don’t pull the race card.”
A woman standing with the man attempts to defuse the moment, saying “New York, baby, New York,” before the man escalates further with racial slurs. A woman then rushes to physically cover his mouth with her hand as he continues talking, and the streamer turns to bystanders and says, “Oh, y’all heard that? Y’all heard that?”
No physical altercation is visible in the portion of the video that’s circulating.
Internet Reacts to Florida Argentina Fan Racist Video
Reaction online has been largely condemnatory. “Sadly it’s not surprising,” one commenter wrote. Another was more pointed toward the man’s wife: “Wife should have clocked him! What a POS.”
A third commenter tied the incident to broader political commentary, writing, “That’s why Trump likes them so much.” Others focused on the World Cup result itself, with one writing, “Well they lost, and he’s a clown!!!!”
A separate thread of comments claimed the man had been identified by name as the owner of a Miami-area Mexican restaurant, with users calling for a boycott. This claim hasn’t been independently verified.
The video adds to a string of racism allegations against Argentina fans throughout this World Cup. At a July 3 match between Argentina and Cape Verde in Miami, a woman wearing an Argentina jersey made disrespectful gestures toward streamer IShowSpeed and screamed at him for over 30 seconds, with some outlets reporting she also used a racial slur.
FIFA said it was investigating the incident and stated it “strongly condemns racism, hate and discrimination in all forms.”
