People often say that the craziest things happen in the streets of New York, and you know what? That statement might be true. We usually see some unhinged things happen in this city, and sometimes, not even one police officer is enough to put a stop to these situations. To give you an example, not long ago, a man was acting erratically in Manhattan, New York, and eight NYPD officers were needed to defuse the situation and detain the man. Some might think it’s overkill, but this scenario demanded it.

Manhattan: East 92nd Street & 2nd Avenue, a man acting erratically caused a disturbance, aggressively confronting people in the street and drawing a large crowd. Officers from the @NYPD19Pct responded and attempted to negotiate with the individual, but he remained hostile and… pic.twitter.com/6EJMy0GncE

The video comes from NYC Scoop on X, and it shows a man acting erratically in the street. According to the original post, this individual caused a disturbance, trying to confront people who were walking around, and eventually drew in a large crowd who were observing him. When things started to get out of hand, the NYPD intervened, but it needed more than just one officer.

As you can see in the footage, there are at least eight officers trying to detain that man in Manhattan. One of the officers approaches the man to grab his legs, but this one tries to throw some kicks at him. It seems that the erratic person didn’t manage to hit the police officer, though.

Once the cops managed to restrain the person, this one continued screaming, causing even more chaos and drawing a lot of attention. Fortunately, it seems this was the end of this erratic situation, and no one was harmed in the process, not even the man who started it all.

Naturally, this shocked several New Yorkers, who quickly wondered where social workers were to prevent such a scenario from happening. A few X users even tagged the mayor’s official account, hoping he would see this video.

“Can’t find a social worker when you need them,” said Mestir Dennis.

Despite the chaotic event, the original post mentions that the NYPD didn’t arrest the person. In truth, it is a bit alarming that the police let this man go. Yet some details remain uncertain, such as whether he was really threatening others or just screaming at them. Still, some people don’t feel safe seeing an individual like this in the streets, so we hope this doesn’t become a recurring problem.

In any case, we should be thankful that no one had an injury, and while there were many police officers for just one person, it is always better to be safe than sorry.
