If there’s one game that gamers have been praying desperately for, it’s Half-Life 3. Well, sadly, it’s possible that the game might be a little further away than usual.
This is due to to Marc Laidlaw, Half-Life co-creator and writer for both games, saying fare-thee-well to Valve. Rumours of his departure began due to an email posted on Reddit. This email was allegedly sent by Marc Laidlaw in response to the poster’s own message asking about Half-Life 3. In it, Laidlaw says;
“I am no longer a full or part time Valve employee, no longer involved in day to day decisions or operations, no longer a spokesman for the company, no longer privy to most types of confidential information, no longer working on Valve games in any capacity”
Following an inquiry by Gamasutra Marc Laidlaw confirmed that his departure is genuine. It would seem that there is no big drama behind Laidlaw’s departure, just that he wants to pursue personal writing projects;
“I will almost certainly get back to writing more stories of my own, that’s simply my default setting. Working on games has been an amazing education, a vocation, an entire career I never expected to have”
Given the seeming lack of momentum behind a production of Half-Life 3, Laidlaw leaving may be the final be the final nail in its coffin. On the other hand, the man himself has admitted that he doesn’t know what’s happening on that front. We can but hope.
