Unless you’ve recently been awoken from encased carbonite, you are undoubtedly aware that Star Wars fever is running wild. Disney has big plans for the Star Wars series with movies planned to release every year…for the next four years. Some of these films will be based in the new Star Wars universe such as Rouge One which releases this December, and follows the Rebel crew that stole the original plans for the Death Star. The other films are part of a new trilogy the began with the highly successful, The Force Awakens. This new trilogy will follow a brand new set of characters but we still will be seeing some familiar faces. At the end of The Force Awakens, Daisy Ridley who plays Rey has tracked down a missing Luke Skywalker. She has come into possession of his old lightsaber which he initially lost while battling Darth Vader on Bespin in the Empire Strikes Back. We also find out by the end of the film that Rey has a connection with the force and it is believed that Episode VIII, will consist of Luke Skywalker training the young Rey. Thanks to a picture that Mark Hamill recently posted to Twitter, it seems that training is already underway.
Mark Hamill posted the photo as a happy birthday to his Star Wars co-star but fans of the series will certainly get a little deja vu from it. In the comparison photo, we see Mark Hamill from the Empire Strikes back carrying Yoda on his back during his Jedi training. The photo is clearly meant to be in good fun but who knows, maybe Luke Skywalker is tired of walking in his old age and Rey will be forced to carry him during training.
Star Wars Episode 8 is currently filming at Pinewood Studios, which is where the photo was taken and will release in December of 2017. Mark Hamill will return as Luke Skywalker and is expected to have a significant role in the film. In the meantime get excited about this year’s Star Wars: Rouge One and check out the official teaser trailer below.
