Marlo Hampton first became an icon among reality television fans when she appeared on the Real Housewives of Atlanta in Season 4 as a guest. The fashionista, known for hanging with NeNe Leakes, stayed around for several years, often popping in and out of group events to stir up trouble. She brought so much drama that producers usually invited her on the international cast trips, too. If you haven’t seen the series, some of her most explosive moments have occurred in places like Tokyo and Barcelona. By Season 14 in 2022, Bravo had upgraded Marlo to become a full-time Housewife. The news brought excitement to Hampton, who longed for her big break. However, her time on the show was spoiled quickly as longtime fans became tired of her behavior. Now, in a new interview, Marlo revealed that becoming a full-time ‘wife’ didn’t bring her much enjoyment. In fact, she was against it entirely.
Marlo Didn’t Want To Hold a Peach on RHOA
After appearing on RHOA for years as a guest, Marlo Hampton was officially upgraded during Season 14 in 2022. However, during an interview on the ACross Generations podcast, Hampton said she wasn’t “happy” about the decision. “I love being a [guest],” she said. “I felt the show was in a bad place, and don’t think I can just come and save this show.” The reality star continued, saying when she first joined RHOA, it was “a different time.” Marlo first appeared with powerhouse stars, including NeNe Leakes and Shereé Whitfield, before filming with replacements, including Drew Sidora and Sanya Richards-Ross. “I feel the show just got dark all of a sudden,” she explained. “We went too far beneath the belt, including me, and the [girls never liked me].”
This Real Housewives Star Sang a Different Tune In 2022
Although Marlo’s two seasons as a full-time peach holder were full of strife, in 2022, she expressed her excitement about being able to share her story. “Getting the peach meant a lot to me for my fans,” she told E! News. “… it just felt so good when I found out I had a peach. I’m like, ‘Yes! My supporters and fans are going to be so happy.’ It was just an amazing feeling, and I just feel everything happens at its right time, and right now, it’s my time.” Two years later, Marlo announced her departure from the series, citing the end of her contract with the network. “This break from RHOA is a fresh start, allowing me the space to participate in new creative entertainment projects focused on my future and not reliving my past.”
Fans Don’t Believe Marlo Wasn’t Happy About Being Asked To Join Housewives
Once the clip of Marlo Hampton saying she wasn’t excited about joining the Real Housewives of Atlanta in a full-time capacity was posted online, fans clapped back, calling the reality star out about her conflicting behavior. “She’s lying to herself! Who stays on a show that long as a [guest],” one user wrote on X. “She is a delusional and a liar,” another user said. “Wasn’t she all over media filming when she got the call and posting all the pics and celebrations? Hope we don’t ever see her back on #RHOA. She declassed the show!”
Following Marlo’s two seasons on RHOA, Bravo announced that the show would be placed on pause ahead of its Sweet 16. Months later, the network shared the news that Porsha Williams (Seasons 5-13) would return to the series alongside Phaedra, who departed after Season 9. “I’m really excited about [Season 16],” Andy said in a recent interview. “I think people have been waiting a long time to see what we’ve done. We’ve got great new housewives,” he said. “We’ve got the return of Porsha [Williams], we’ve got the return of Phaedra [Parks],” he added before calling them a “breath of fresh air.”
