Earlier this year, LKA, the team behind The Town of Light, announced their new project, Martha is Dead. On Thursday, the development team released a new, gruesome trailer and announced that the game will come to Xbox Series X and PC in 2021.

IGN debuted the new Martha is Dead trailer along with an exclusive look at gameplay. LKA has promised that this horrific murder mystery will “combine real-life locations, Italian folklore and psychological horror”. The trailer below showcases some of these aspects as it shows the body of a woman washing onto the shore of a lake, someone cutting off her face and wearing it as their own.

LKA founder Luca Dalco commented on the shocking content, “Martha’s brutal murder brings with it a mirrored sense of misery. This game will shock, make players question the truth and like The Town of Light, help continue a conversation around subject matters that still carry much stigma.”

Martha Is Dead - Official Lake Trailer

The murder mystery that is Martha is Dead tells a dark tale from World War II steeped in folklore and superstition:

Tuscany, 1944. As conflict intensifies between German and Allied forces, the body of a woman is found drowned. Her twin sister must alone deal with the acute trauma of loss, while the truth of the brutal murder is shrouded by mysterious folklore and the extreme horror of war which draws ever closer.

When Martha is Dead was first announced, it was said to be releasing on PlayStation 5 and PC with “photo-realistic graphics”. However, today’s announcement failed to mention anything about a PlayStation 5 release or why it may not be releasing on the console.
