Another day, another Marvel TV series bites the dust. This time it is Agents of SHIELD that has fallen and will join the likes of Daredevil and Jessica Jones into the trash. As reported on Deadline, ABC has decided to end Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD after the upcoming season 7, which is due to air sometime in 2020.
Agents of SHIELD was the first recent Marvel show to hit our screens back in 2013, and making it to 7 seasons and 136 episodes is not too bad at all. The fact we officially know the next season is the last is a good thing as it allows fans to prepare themselves for it and allows the creators to finish the story and go out with a bang. There’s nothing worse than a show you love being canceled suddenly, leaving fans with unanswered questions. The cancelation of Hannibal still haunts me to this day.
Marvel TV boss, Jeph Loeb, had this to say about the final Agents of SHIELD season:
“When you know that’s what you’re doing, you can take greater risks, of life and death. Those kinds of decisions suddenly now are real on the table because you’re not playing how do we undo this when we get to the next season. You’re playing that this is going to be the end of the story.”
Sounds like we could be in for an explosive end and we could be saying goodbye to some fan favorites in more ways than one.
No fixed release date has been announced yet besides sometime in 2020. Production is already underway so, hopefully, we’ll see it sooner rather than later, not that I’m trying to wish it away. In the meantime, we still have season 6 to get through and enjoy, as well as a host of other Marvel shows to look forward to.
We’ll bring you more news on the final season of Agents of SHIELD, including a release date, as and when we get it. Are you sad that the show is coming to an end, or are you happy that it’s finishing on its own terms? Let us know in the comments.
