One of the most anticipated upcoming games, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, has just received a new story trailer. Following the fantastic entries of Marvel’s Spider-Man and Marvel’s Spider-Man Miles Morales, Spider-Man 2 promises to be just as strong. So far, while not much is known about the game, more information should come closer to release. The new Spider-Man 2 trailer, although only around 2 minutes long, is chock-full of information about both new characters, like Venom and returning characters. Here is a breakdown of the Spider-Man 2 story trailer for anyone wanting an in-depth look at the trailer.
For those unfamiliar, the Marvel Spider-Man series is an open-world action-adventure game where people play as Spider-Man. The story follows the Marvel comics and includes many popular characters like Mary Jane Watson, J. Jonah Jameson, Norman Osborn, and Miles Morales. After the original game, a spin-off starring Miles himself was released, fittingly titled Marvel’s Spider-Man Miles Morales. Though these games did an excellent job of telling a contained story, each game left hints at a sequel, including post-credit scenes. Now we have finally received more information in the form of the new Spider-Man 2 story trailer, revealing both old friends and new foes.
Venom Is Shown off in the Spider-Man 2 Story Trailer
In the Spider-Man 2 story trailer, first and foremost, we see the appearance of Venom. Despite being an extremely popular Spider-Man character, the symbiote did not appear in the first game. Specifically, at the end of the trailer, Venom is shown wreaking havoc and destruction as he tears his way through the city. As was previously indicated, this will not be Eddie Brock. Instead, many presume Harry Osborn to be the potential replacement.
On top of this, we also see Peter infected with the Venom symbiote, which promises to be an interesting plot point in the game. The story trailer’s most intriguing element is Peter’s struggle with the symbiote. It’ll be great to see how Peter deals with this and how MJ and Miles help him throughout the story.
The Spider-Man 2 Story Trailer Expands On Harry And Norman’s Relationship
Additionally, we see further story improvements in the trailer, with Harry making a physical appearance. Harry is the terminally-ill son of Norman Osborn, the previous mayor of New York and a close friend of Peter. Insomniac Games previously stated that they wanted to feature both Harry and Norman in more prominent roles during the new game.
In the new Spider-Man 2 story trailer, the father-and-son duo is shown talking about his condition and what it will take to cure Harry. As we know from scenes of the previous games, the Venom symbiote could be used to stabilize Harry’s physical condition. However, as we can see, this will have disastrous consequences for New York City overall.
The Trailer Shows Off The Wonderful World Of Spider-Man
Next, we also see the appearance of Kraven the Hunter in the trailer, hunting Spider-Man down. He is shown wielding a large axe and wearing a bear pelt. Seeing the character make his debut in Spider-Man 2 is sure to make plenty of fans happy, especially since the trailer seems to be gearing up for an epic confrontation.
For other foes, we also see Spider-Man wrestling the Lizard while affected by the symbiote. It’ll be interesting to see how the symbiote will change various fights. Even the inclusion of the symbiote may make the story a bit darker overall. Finally, we see Miles confront Mr. Negative, who makes his return to Spider-Man 2. The trailer did a great job of portraying Miles’s inclusion as Spider-Man and will keep building on his development from Spider-Man Miles Morales.
In the end, the new Spider-Man 2 story trailer shows much promise in both returning and new characters. With the inclusion of Venom, as well as the development of characters like Miles and Harry, Spider-man fans are in for a treat when Spider-Man 2 releases later this year.
Hopefully, by the time the game releases, we will see more amazing friends and foes of Spider-Man lore. Insomniac Games has proven that they respect the source material while not being afraid to step outside of the box. Additionally, based on previous gameplay trailers, Spider-Man 2 seems to look just as good as the last two entries. Overall, it seems a lot of effort went into the Spider-Man 2 story trailer. Hopefully, the game will keep up this level of quality up to its release.
