The developers of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 have confirmed that the New York City map size will expand. It’s been revealed that the NYC map expansion will include Queens and Brooklyn, nearly doubling the map size from the previous games. The original Marvel’s Spider-Man and Spider-Man: Miles Morales maps only covered Manhattan. This new map upgrade for Spider-Man 2 will open the game up for new and exciting features.
What Does the Map Expansion Mean in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2
Insomniac Game’s creative director Bryan Intihar confirmed that Queens and Brooklyn are included in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 map. Intihar confirmed the map expansion in a Famitsu interview. Gemtsu would then later translate the interview.
Queens and Brooklyn are the homes of Peter Parker and Miles Morales, respectively. The gameplay trailer featuring Kraven and the Lizard gave fans a good look at Queens. The trailer showed Peter in his Venom Symbiote busting out of a home in Queens, looking for Curt Conners, AKA the Lizard. He ends up teaming up with Miles to chase after the Lizard in the nearby docks and fight off Kraven’s henchmen.
Queens is more suburban than mainline Manhattan. Whereas the heart of New York City has plenty of tall buildings and skyscrapers for the Spider-Men to swing across, Queens doesn’t have any of that. The Spider-Men will have to find other ways to travel across Queens besides swinging.
Because of the expanded NYC map size, there are new ways for the Spider-Men to travel. There’s now a web glider sewn underneath the arms of the superheroes, helping them glide across the entire New York map. The Spider-Men can also use their webs to catapult themselves from one part of the map to another.
The larger map size for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 fundamentally changes how players will play the game. With more new areas to explore, players will find the sequel to feature more new content than the previous entries.
What Can Fans Expect in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2?
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is the highly anticipated follow-up to Insomniac’s critical acclaim Marvel’s Spider-Man and Spider-Man: Miles Morales. Spider-Man 2 has the two Spider-Men partnering up to fight against Kraven the Hunter, who seeks out superheroes and supervillains in New York.
Peter bonds with the Venom Symbiote, gaining new powers and abilities not featured in the original game. Eventually, the Symbiote leaves Peter and ends up bonding with another person to create the infamous supervillain Venom.
