You might have seen YouTube reviews and Reddit clips tearing Insomniac’s latest superhero release to shreds since its September 15 debut. But while Logan might be taking a beating online, the same can’t be said about his sales. According to Alinea Analytics, Marvel’s Wolverine generated an estimated $130 million in sales in just three days.
That number comes from 1.9 million copies sold, including one million digital preorders. Even more impressive, those three days were enough to beat Death Stranding 2‘s entire PS5 lifetime so far. Hideo Kojima‘s gig delivery simulator sequel has reportedly sold 1.8 million PS5 copies and generated $129 million.
That’s definitely ain’t bad for a game that’s being clawed at from every direction online. After Spidey’s smoother outings, Alinea noted that Logan’s adventure is being ‘mauled online’ on social media. Not just because it’s much more linear than Insomniac’s previous release.
Wolverine got caught up in gamers’ boycott against Sony, while some also found plenty of other things to nitpick. These range from QTEs and motorcycle sections basically completing themselves to accusations of the game being ‘woke slop.’ Obviously, if we see the numbers, none of that appears to have stopped people from buying it anyway.

“While I agree with many of these criticisms of Wolverine, as does much of the press […] most of the folks chatting sh*#@ online haven’t played Wolverine,” wrote Alinea’s Rhys Elliott. “[…S]ocial media algorithms reward and amplify outrage – manufactured and real – creating a cycle of negativity that isn’t representative of the situation.”
Alinea’s data also detailed that Marvel’s Wolverine‘s sales already the highest-performing new PlayStation Studios game on PS5 this year, becoming the 6th top-grossing game on the platform. Beating EA College Football, MLB The Show, and Marvel Tokon in estimated revenue while catching up to Black Flag Resynced‘s $133 million.
Whether Logan has Spider-Man-sized legs is another question. Alinea expects its mixed reception to hurt its long-term sales compared to Insomniac’s wall-crawler. For now, though, with holiday sales looming, all that ‘online mauling’ clearly hasn’t stopped Wolverine from mauling the cash register instead.
