A Maryland nail salon owner found himself defending his prices after a customer’s mother walked in to complain about how much her 30-year-old daughter paid for a basic nail appointment.
The mother argued that $45 was far too much for having her daughter’s fingernails and toenails painted, while the owner insisted the prices were advertised and the customer had received a birthday discount. The video was shared on Facebook by LT Nails and Tanning and on Reddit’s r/PublicFreakout.
In the clip, the mother tells the owner that her daughter had been charged $45 for having her nails and toes painted, comparing the bill with another salon, Sophia’s Nails, where she claimed a polish change cost just $15.
The owner explains that the salon charges $25 for the polish-change service and that the prices are listed on its website and booking portal. He also says the daughter originally owed $50 but received a $5 birthday discount.
The mother refuses to accept the explanation, repeatedly calling the salon a rip-off and threatening to tell people not to visit. She also questions why her daughter was charged that much when she could have received a manicure for $28 or a pedicure for $40.
The owner remains firm and asks whether customers also haggle over prices at restaurants. He then offers a solution: the daughter can return, have the nail services removed, and receive a full refund.
However, the disagreement continues when they discuss the daughter’s appointment and the services provided. The other owner says the customer received filing, buffing, and nail cleanup along with the polish. She also explains that the birthday discount was given because he felt bad about the misunderstanding.
The mother, meanwhile, insists her daughter never expected to pay that much and says the pricing was not clearly listed where she looked. The owner offers to show her the booking website, but the two continue disagreeing over what was advertised.
The exchange also gets personal, with the owner claiming the mother had flipped off staff and used profanity during the confrontation.
Ultimately, the disagreement appears to come down to a difference between what the customer expected to pay and what the salon charged.
Internet Reacts to Maryland Mom’s Nail Salon Bill Complaint
The video amused viewers, particularly because the complaint came from the mother of a 30-year-old customer rather than the customer herself. One commenter joked, “Wait till she finds out how much a taco costs now.” Another pointed out the expenses involved in running a salon: “The drama is unnecessary. It’s the cost of doing business as the owner has to pay for rent, utilities, equipment, staff.”
Someone else defended the pricing, writing, “We all know it’s not just painting the nails. It takes an hour to do a gel mani pedi, at the very least! This is probably the first time this lady and her grown *expletive* daughter have gotten a professional one!”
The daughter’s age also became a talking point. “If you are 30 and your MOM goes into argue about nail prices im sorry you are a loser,” one person wrote. Another commenter had a simple suggestion: “Paint her nails. Then teach her, at 30yrs old, to check the prices.”
The video does not establish whether the daughter reviewed the prices before her appointment, but the owner repeatedly maintains that the rates were available online.
