Maryland Resident Shocked as Their BGE Bill Goes Above $200 in a Condo: ‘Looks Average’

Too expensive or just normal?

As you know, electricity bills have always been high around the country, especially now, but it seems that some states and cities are experiencing even higher costs than normal. Recently, a resident from Baltimore, Maryland, shared that their BGE bill for a condo was higher than $200. While this would normally shock some people, other Baltimore residents chimed in, saying this was expected, especially given how the heatwave has been affecting everyone, leading to higher electricity bills that are affecting many.

Just got my BGE Bill. I live in a condo, mind you….

Reddit user Marmalade_Penguin was the one who shared the above picture showing their BGE bill in Baltimore, Maryland. OP claims that they have to pay $228.91, which they found shocking as they live in a condo. To provide further context, OP mentioned they work mostly at home, but don’t tend to keep their lights on that much during the day. Furthermore, they have the A/C running at 73F. Still, they mention how the price is pretty high, especially since they have been living at that location for four years and have never seen bills like this one.

While many expected other Maryland residents to share the shock alongside OP, it seems that this cost is “normal,” at least in Baltimore terms. So far, many citizens have also shared their experience with BGE, claiming that the OP’s bill is still on the average side, as many other residents tend to pay ten times that or even more. Of course, it all depends on the county you live in, but it would seem that people think that the culprit of these high bills is none other than the heatwave, which, as many already know, has been affecting people across the state.

Maryland Residents Think the Heatwave is Behind the High Electricity Bills

After some Redditors saw the above image, they started claiming that it wasn’t too far-fetched, even for a condo, and during a heatwave.

“Sounds about right. I’m in the county, and during the summer, for a ~1000 sq ft apartment, I’m usually in the $180-$200 range with my thermostat set to 75.“

“I have an apartment, close to 1k sq ft, and my bills are around 220 monthly. Absolutely the new norm.“

Others doubled down on the lack of shock, saying this is something expected in Baltimore.

“Looks average.”

While many have come to terms with the prices, others believe they are unnecessarily high and will likely get worse as the heatwave continues to hit the state.
