When a series starts following a different protagonist, it can sometimes be hard to say goodbye. After all, you’ve followed the original hero through thick and thin. From dramatic moments of action to quiet, emotional scenes, you’ll have been through a lot with them. Bioware apparently understands this, so they decided to rub salt in the wound with the new teaser trailer for Mass Effect Andromeda.
For those of you who wandered onto this site while looking for knitting patterns, Mass Effect Andromeda is the sequel you get when hundreds of elements of the original trilogy were down to player choice. Sometimes sequels are deliberately vague about the events of the previous game to avoid making a particular ending ‘canon’. As it was entirely up to players which characters survived, which species went extinct and whether commander Shepard was male or female; this was a bit trickier when it came to Mass Effect.
In the end, Bioware decided that a sequel that didn’t cut off story branches was impossible to set anywhere in the Mass Effect Galaxy; Shepard’s war against the Reapers had simply been too far reaching for that. And so, Mass Effect Andromeda was born; putting you in the space boots of a member of an exploration mission to a new galaxy.
Bioware has been very tight-lipped about the specifics of Mass Effect Andromeda. We know very little about it except the player character will be another customizable human and that the Mako returns. The new teaser doesn’t give any new gameplay or story details. What it does feature is narration by Femshep, in a very ‘passing the torch’ moment.
