Unfortunately, racist incidents continue to happen across the country it feels like hardly a day goes by without another one making headlines. A recent example unfolded at a Home Depot in Boston, Massachusetts, where a customer unleashed a racist rant at one of the store’s employees.
The outburst began when the woman quickly earning the “Karen” label overheard the employee speaking Spanish. Acting unhinged, she stormed toward the worker while repeatedly chanting “USA.” She then snapped, “Can’t speak English, you don’t work here.” Of course, if language had been an actual problem, the store wouldn’t have hired her in the first place.
Her tirade escalated as she accused the employee of being an “illegal immigrant.” Throughout the confrontation, the employee continued speaking Spanish, and while not everyone would understand her words, her tone made it clear she felt unsafe. After all, she wasn’t just being criticized she was being harassed.
The Massachusetts Karen then shifted her attention to another employee who did speak English. Her words weren’t clear but she was probably complaining to her. She then told the employee, “She doesn’t speak one word of English,” to which the employee responded and said, “Yes, she does.” At this point, you just want her to leave but she kept getting more obnoxious. She called the employees “you people” and then said that she was an American. So she believes that she is superior. I don’t think the same with that behavior. The Karen then called the other employee, “fat [expletive].” She has a way with words.
The Karen was so upset that the employee was speaking Spanish that she told a man passing by “I’m going to try my best to get her fired.” It seems like a lot of people have no problem with getting people fired just because they disagree with them. “This is my country not yours,” she then said. Her racist rant continued as she also said “America is tired of you. We are tired of you.” It won’t take a lot of effort to guess who she supports. The whole thing was just disgusting. It is also a reflection of what is happening currently in America.
People Reacting to the Racist Massachusetts Karen
It’s safe to say that people were disgusted by how racist the Massachusetts Karen was being. A lot also felt bad for the employee who got harassed. One person had to write, “It sucks that these people live amongst us.” This made another person reply saying that these people had always been there. “They’ve always been here. Only difference is now they’re proud and not worried about any repercussions bc of obvious reasons. The new America,” they wrote. Racists are definitely feeling more confident these days. Someone else hoped that people like this Karen would face consequences in the future. They commented:
“This woman has never accomplished anything of value in her entire miserable life. Most scum like her feel this is their moment and they’re going to seize it. They feel like they’re on top of the world with trump emboldening this behavior. When the backlash comes, and it will surely come, all of these rodents will crawl back under their rocks and act like they were not a part of this disgraceful time we are living through.”
There were also a lot of people who felt sad about this racist incident in Massachusetts. One person believed that this kind of hate must be tiring as they said, “Imagine choosing to live your life this hate-filled. It must be exhausting.” Racists seem to enjoy it though. Another person felt like they kept seeing one terrible person after another. “I’m so tired of seeing a new worst human I’ve ever seen every day,” they wrote. Others hoped that someone would have gotten violent toward the Karen. One person wrote, “I was hoping the woman in orange was gonna slap her.” Someone was more peaceful in wishing that she was kicked out as they said, “That should be grounds for removal from the store. She’s harassing the staff.” I hope that the employee won’t lose her job because of this woman.
