It looks sad

The archetypal “neighbor’s dog” is most certainly an infuriating one, with all the barking and howling that many who deal with such a pesky pet will know very well. Well, for one particular homeowner in Massachusetts, their neighbor’s dog was not the barking type, but a violent type. In a post on r/mildlyinfuriating, the poster shares a photo of the dog next door with its head poking through the wooden fence. “The neighbor’s (unfriendly) dog keeps busting through our fence,” the post’s title reads.

OP goes on to explain that the fence is not old or rotting, despite appearing a little worn. “The dog is just that strong. I guess he really wants to get away from them,” they remarked. While the poster probably wrote that as a sarcastic comment initially, the users in the comments make them realize that that actually might be the case. The neighbor’s dog wants out, bad.

One person pointed out that the dog’s mouth looks like it’s in pain. “Those sores on his mouth are concerning. Have you thought about telling your local humane society?” the commenter asks. “Sounds like he’s being neglected. A happy dog will not do this. Please contact animal services,” suggests another. The Massachusetts homeowner went on to explain that the neighbor has two dogs, and both indeed look neglected and abused. It seems so serious, in fact, that the pets have actually tried to escape many times. “They escape the yard once a week on average. I’m honestly shocked that neither of them have been hit by a car yet,” OP detailed.

Several recommend that the homeowner consider putting up a chain link to ensure the dog never gets through. “I’m just going to put more of those boards up and replace that section of fence myself in the spring,” OP responds. Based on the wooden boards nailed to the fence in the picture, it’s pretty clear that they’ve been doing repairs because of the dog for a while. Hopefully, they talk with their neighbor about the situation and check if the two dogs are actually being neglected.
