Massachusetts Republicans Slam Gov. Healey’s Health Savings Claims Amid Rising Insurance Rates: ‘Stop giving health care to illegals’

Can’t Afford It

The GOP in Massachusetts is up in arms again, and this time they are taking aim at some bold claims by Governor Healey about health premiums and how much they are “saving” lately. They point out that despite whatever her office is claiming, actual insurance rates are still up, and some of the most expensive in the country, which caused a huge back-and-forth between citizens online.

BREAKING: My Division of Insurance negotiated down rate increases with seven health insurers, saving 670K residents $72M in premiums.

From lowering out-of-pocket costs to getting rid of prior authorizations, we're making sure you can afford the care you need, when you need it.

Massachusetts Gov. Maura Healey announced Wednesday, in a post on X and an accompanying press release, that her Division of Insurance negotiated down proposed 2027 rate increases from seven health insurers, projecting $72 million in savings for about 670,000 residents and businesses. The problem is, nearly 700,000 Massachusetts residents and businesses will still see average premium increases of 10.4% next year, as Healey faces reelection with health care affordability a central campaign issue.

Healey wrote the following on X.

BREAKING: My Division of Insurance negotiated down rate increases with seven health insurers, saving 670K residents $72M in premiums. From lowering out-of-pocket costs to getting rid of prior authorizations, we’re making sure you can afford the care you need, when you need it.

This prompted many local GOP and Republican voices to express concern about the very expensive cost of living that’s being felt by everybody across the state.

“Stop giving health care to illegals while Americans suffer. Allowing ILLEGALS to vote is a slap in the face to every taxpaying American.”

“Another Post Another Healey Lie. Your policies have made Massachusetts one of the highest healthcare costs in the country”

“Now tell me what you provide for ILLEGALS in terms of healthcare? I believe it’s free off the backs of the taxpayers. You are a disgrace.”

Healey is running for reelection in Massachusetts this year, and her Republican opponents have made the state’s high cost of living a central campaign issue, one Healey herself now references almost daily. As it draws near, they show no sign of letting up anytime soon.
