Matthew McConaughey and his wife of nearly twelve years Camila Alves won’t let one misunderstanding tear them apart. The couple recently appeared on Your Mama’s Kitchen podcast where they discussed their blissful marriage, morning routines, and how they’ve managed to brave numerous misunderstandings that threatened to drive a wedge in their marriage over the years. A glimpse into the Wednesday episode showed the couple answering some pressing questions that shed light on the nature of their loving relationship.
Matthew McConaughey and Camila Discuss Marriage and Family
Speaking to host Michelle Norris, Matthew McConaughey and his wife Camila admitted that like most couples, they had their moments of misunderstanding. However, they’ve over time mastered the art of resolving their differences, and food often came in handy in dissolving some of these marital crises.
Matthew explained that oftentimes when they disagreed, he made sure to serve his wife a bite of the “steak sushi” or whatever he prepared that night. Doing so, to him, mitigated whatever bad blood was brewing. He divulged,
“There’s an invisible dissipation to the disagreement that happens in my service to her. That I handed her a gift. Of something that we were already really enjoying. That I continued.”
Stressing the importance of a meal in their marriage, Matthew McConaughey explained that disagreeing with Camila in no way meant the meal was over. On the contrary, they hoped to “never quit serving” each other even on their bad days. Interestingly, each one had a special culinary skill that the other most appreciated in their marriage.
For Matthew McConaughey, he enjoys a cup of tea made by his Camila, because it tastes better. Hence, even when a misunderstanding escalates so much, trusting that his wife would still make his morning tea and serve him makes all the difference. He quipped,
“It’s the difference between being married and dating.”
Matthew and Wife Share Beautiful Secret to Sustaining a Marriage
On her part, Camila, who cherishes Matthew McConaughey’s steak sushi admitted she certainly did not feel like serving that tea on some mornings. Yet, she always opted to, knowing what it entailed for their marriage. The couple also left viewers with a beautiful tip for sustaining marriage and relationships. According to them, unlike dating, where certain misunderstandings are considered a sign to pull the plug, marriage offers no such luxury. Matthew divulged,
“But you’re married and you disagree and you’re like, ‘I’m not pulling the parachute. This is part of it. I’m going to work through this. I’m still gonna serve my man his tea. I’m still gonna serve my lady her steak sushi because I know she loves it.’ Even though we may be in a disagreement.”
Matthew McConaughey and his wife Camila referenced one incident as recent as Sunday night, where a simple milkshake gesture came to the rescue. The lovebirds, who are parents to three children further established that sometimes, all it took to de-escalate a heated situation was a serving of sweet food, be it ice cream or chocolate. Put simply— It’s the gesture that counts.
