Matthew Perry is back to front-page news after a coroner released his autopsy report on Friday. The sitcom star made October 28 headlines for dying in his tub tub at the age of 54. Shortly before the weekend, a coroner ruled that the Friends favorite had died from an “acute” overdose of ketamine, also listing drowning, coronary artery disease, and the effects of an opioid as contributing to his death.
Since the report, new information regarding Matthew’s final days has been released. The Daily Mail pointed toward a “grim” end that included “nicotine lollipops” as Matthew continued to battle his past smoking habit.
Matthew Perry’s Cause Of Death Revealed
Per the report: “At the high levels of ketamine found in his postmortem blood specimens, the main lethal effects would be from both cardiovascular overstimulation and respiratory depression.”
Perry had been undergoing supervised ketamine therapy, however his last session was over a week before his passing. As such, the coroner ruled that the ketamine found in his system was not from the sessions he was undergoing therapeutically.
Nicotine Lollipops And Loose Pills
Also noted was what a detective found in Perry’s live-in assistant’s bedroom. It states: “Multiple open, empty, half-filled medication bottles prescribed to the decedent, as well as over-the-counter medications, vitamins, digestive aids and dishes filled with multiple various loose pills, tablets, caplets, candy and breath mints.”
The detective did, however, note that “no alcohol, illicit drugs or drugs paraphernalia were found.”
Perry, best known for starring in every episode of the 1994-2004 sitcom Friends had bravely documented his long-term mental health and addiction issues in his memoir. Former costar Jennifer Aniston, 54, stated that the actor was “doing great” before his death at his Pacific Palisades home.
As to the amount of ketamine found in Matthew’s blood, the coroner likened it to the amount needed for a general anesthetic.
On October 28, Matthew played a two-hour pickleball game before asking his assistant to run some errands. The assistant returned to find Perry lifeless and face down in his hot tub. For fans, there was a bittersweet, almost haunting end to the actor’s life, given that his final Instagram share, uploaded five days prior to his death, showed him chilling in his hot tub at night.
