This article is over 1 years old and may contain outdated information.

A new Mortal Kombat 1 teaser focuses on the return of Ermac as a playable character. However, another Kombatant is hiding in the new video, showcasing a surprising Kameo. Mavado is the returning Kameo fighter in the Mortal Kombat 1 teaser, coming back to the franchise after a decade of absence in the series. The teaser is, in fact, for Ermac reprising his role in the new post-MK1 era, but if you pay close attention, Mavado Kameo is teased for only 1 second in this short promotion video. Mavado was last seen in Mortal Kombat: Armageddon and his return may highlight a more in-depth future for this character.

The new promotional video released by the Mortal Kombat on X, focuses on the return of Ermac, this time as a playable character. We’ve seen Ermac in the MK1 story, and turns out King Jerrod was able to maintain control of the character. Pay close attention to the promotional video that the developers have released for this kombatant.

If you play the video in slow motion, you’ll find Mavado as a Kameo fighter standing right behind Ermac. The last time we got to see Mavado was in the Mortal Kombat: Armageddon. The Earthrealm fighter is one of the main members of the Red Dragons, ruled by Taven’s brother, Daegon.

This is while Daegon is nowhere to be found in the MK1 roaster, and not all the Kameo fighters are mainly involved in the story. They could be from other realms, or just a guest like Peacemaker. Mavado was never teased in the Invasion or the story mode of Mortal Kombat 1.

Going in depth to the character’s origin, Mavado is a Red Dragon warrior, serving Argus’ son, Daegon. Mavado was a playable character in Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance and Mortal Kombat: Armageddon, wielding the hook swords of Kabal after defeating him in kombat.

In the new timeline, however, not much is known about the backstory of Mavado in Mortal Kombat 1. The only reference to this character is in one of the Kitana and Li Mei’s conversations, where Li Mei warns Princess Kitana that he’s in Outworld and she should not try capturing him alone.

Currently, no specific time is announced for the full appearance of Mavado in Mortal Kombat 1. However, he’s been introduced in Ermac’s teaser, and it might mean that he’ll have his debut alongside this kombatant reportedly on April 16th in Mortal Kombat 1 Season 5, along side Dark Raiden.

Mortal Kombat 1 is currently available to play on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
