The fifth and final season premiere of the Sons of Anarchy spinoff series, Mayans M.C., has officially been announced, and the series will return to the small-screen and wrap up its final ride this May; FX had initially announced the season 5 renewal of the gritty motorcycle drama series back in July last year during the 2022 San Diego Comic-Con. It wasn’t until January that the upcoming fifth season was revealed to be its last. You can check out the official Mayans M.C. final season teaser trailer below.
The official synopsis for the upcoming final season reads as follows, Mayans M.C. follows the life of Ezekiel “EZ” Reyes (JD Pardo), president of the Mayans M.C. charter on the Cali/Mexi border. Once a golden boy with the American Dream in his grasp, EZ has now risen to lead his brother Angel (Clayton Cardenas) and the Santo Padre M.C. in a bloody war against their rival Sons of Anarchy. Defending the California territory and patch begins to claim lives within the club and causes strain between EZ and Angel — as one brother devotes himself to the club and the other to family. Felipe (Edward James Olmos) attempts to heal these fractured bonds for the future of the Reyes family.
Ending Mayans MC with Season 5 was a Creative Decision
During the Television Critics Association’s winter press tour, FX boss John Landgraf had made the official announcement that Mayans MC will end with season 5. Following the announcement, series showrunner Elgin James released a statement saying, “Next season is going to be complicated for everyone. What’s happening is, the show will never, ever be the same,” James said. “The brothers will never be the same. I don’t know if that’s Angel [setting the fire], I don’t know if that’s Isaac, I don’t know who that is — but there’s someone who’s burning all that down, and nothing on our show will ever be the same … Kurt and I did start to lay this stuff in from the beginning. Like, ‘Oh, this is the way [EZ] was always going to end. This was his fate from the start.'”
The series also stars JR Bourne, Danny Pino, Carla Baratta, Michael Irby, Emilio Rivera, Sarah Bolger, Frankie Loyal, Joseph Lucero, Vincent Vargas, Gino Vento, Emily Tosta and Vanessa Giselle. Mayans M.C. was co-created by Kurt Sutter and Elgin James. The series is also executive produced by James and Sutter while being produced 20th Television and FX Productions. The fifth and final season of Mayans M.C. will consist a total of 10 episodes that is scheduled to premiere on May 24th exclusively on FX and Hulu. All previous episodes of Mayans M.C. seasons 1-4 are now currently available for streaming on Hulu.
