Marvel is set to make cinematic history this week with the release of Avengers: Infinity War. The movie will be a culmination of a ten-year journey that will bring some of our heroes stories to an end and act as the start of a new era for the MCU. We still aren’t entirely sure what this new era will entail and it turns out that we won’t know until next year according to President of Marvel Studios Kevin Feige.
In an interview with Den of Geek US, Feige said that the there won’t be any announcements at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con:
“We won’t do anything until after this time next year. After that, I think we’ll announce where we’re going. But we did a very big announcement in 2014 where we announced a lot of movies, and we added a few movies to it after that announcement. But it really felt important that we deliver on that before we do a big showcase of whatever is to come.”
Ant-Man and the Wasp, Avengers 4 and Captain Marvel will be closing out Marvel’s epic phase 3 over the next year. We know that Spider-Man Homecoming 2, Black Panther 2, and Guardians of the Galaxy 3 will kick off phase 4 but I guess we’ll just have to wait to find out more.
Keeping your fanbase in the dark about future plans is a risky decision by Feige and Marvel that could backfire in the future due to rabid fan speculation on what’s to come. This news is coming a few days after another interview Feige had with IGN regarding the highly anticipated title of Avengers 4. Feige told the gaming site:
“I’ve said before, it’s gotten entirely out of hand. And now will have no chance to living up to any expectations of what it’s gonna be. And it sort of backfired, if I’m honest with you, because the notion was to not talk about it so the focus was to be on [Infinity War].”
