It is one thing to recognize a familiar face from a TV show or movie, but it is another when it is just a voice you’re hearing. You may find yourself scratching your head, trying to figure out where you know the voice actors of Baldur’s Gate 3 from. There are plenty of talented, recognizable voices throughout Larian Studios’ massive RPG. These people have plenty of talent and can be recognized for some of their other roles. Let’s identify and explore the careers of the talented cast of the game.
The Voice Actors of Baldur’s Gate 3
Amelia Tyler as the Narrator
Similarly to Divinity: Original Sin 2, Baldur’s Gate 3 utilizes a narrator for key moments and to say what’s going on in your character’s head. When you first hear Amelia Tyler, she may immediately seem familiar. If she does, that is for a good reason: her prominent roles in major hit AAA and indie games. She previously worked with Larian as Malady in Original Sin 2, opening the door for this narration role. Other notable games she had a role in include Hades as Hecate, Amnesia: Rebirth as Eva Ritter and Atharu, and Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous as Wenduag.
Neil Newbon as Astarion
You meet Astarion after the initial opening of the game when you land on a beach. This Rogue can become a companion of yours, but while he is following you, his voice might stick out. Neil Newbon is among the rising voice actors in the AAA space between Baldur’s Gate 3 and other releases in recent years. Before Astarion, plenty of people heard him in Final Fantasy XVI, which was released back in June. He has been a prominent voice in recent Resident Evil games as Karl Heisenberg in Village and Nicholai Ginovaef in the RE3 Remake. One of the big splashes that brought him into so many big games in a few years’ time was having two roles in Quantic Dreams’ Detroit: Become Human as Elijah Kamski and Gavin Reed.
Jennifer English as Shadowheart
One of the leading stars is only gaining more momentum in her career. Jennifer English may not have many roles under her belt, but she has proven herself a powerhouse in her accomplishments. Shadowheart is one of her biggest roles to date. The Cleric can be optionally saved when on the Nautiloid and will serve as a companion when you wake up on the beach. Beyond playing Shadowheart, English was Leya in Divinity: Original Sin 2 and Latenna in Elden Ring. After this latest role, we hope to hear her voice in more games.
Devora Wilde as Lae’zel
The first companion you meet within the first few minutes of the game is Lae’zel. Devora Wilde brings the Fighter to life as she tries to help you get off the Nautiloid. Unlike the other voice actors listed so far from Baldur’s Gate 3, she has done more TV and movie roles than video games. The Bulgarian actress might be known in her home country for her role in the medical drama Stolen Life. Her first step into the video game industry was her role in Stellaris. Since then, she has starred in Battlefield 2042 and Total War: Warhammer III. Similarly to English, we hope to see or hear more of Wilde post-Baldur’s Gate.
J.K. Simmons as General Ketheric Thorm
Little introduction needs to be made for one of the biggest Hollywood actors who has had an impact on film and TV for decades. J.K. Simmons delivers a level of expertise that is unmatched in the roster of actors in Baldur’s Gate 3. Larian Studios clearly knew this, providing a fascinating video of the actor recording his lines for General Ketheric Thorm. This is far from the first time the legendary actor has stepped into a booth to record voice lines for a character rather than be in front of the camera. If you are familiar with his live-action roles in Spider-Man movies, Whiplash, and more, then you should check out Invincible, wherein he plays the brutal superhero Omni-Man.
Matthew Mercer as Minsc
One of the legacy characters returning to the series is Minsc. For Larian Studios to bring this character back for old-school fans of Baldur’s Gate, they needed the right actor. Fittingly for a Dungeons & Dragons game, Matthew Mercer was hired. Beyond his fantastic career as a voice actor, he is part of Critical Role, a D&D podcast group who have turned one of their campaigns into the popular animated series The Legend of Vox Machina. Besides playing D&D with his fellow voice-acting friends, he is known for playing Ganondorf in Tears of the Kingdom, MacCready and Z1-14 in Fallout 4, and Anarky in Batman: Arkham Origins.
Jason Isaacs as Lord Enver Gortash
If you need a potential villain, hire Jason Isaacs. The Harry Potter star has been brought in as another experience talent to join the actors in Baldur’s Gate 3. He plays Lord Gortash in a way so as to not be trusted, but he has had a variety of roles across TV, movies, and video games. The non-gaming side of his career spans across The Great, Sex Education, The OA, and a role as a Death Eater in the Harry Potter films. In gaming, you can hear his voice as Mephisto and Agaphisto in Midnight Suns and Reza Zaydan in Hitman (2016).
Tim Downie as Gale
Tim Downie is a newcomer to the video game world. The British actor made his game debut as the Wizard, Gale. After crash landing on a beach, you can quickly meet him to join your party and have some magic on your side. Immediately, he shows his charisma and humor that captures players, causing them to bring him along even if they don’t need a Wizard. If you know your British TV, then you may know him. He has starred in Toast of London and Outlander. He has also starred in Paddington and Good Omens.
Baldur’s Gate 3 releases on PC, including Steam Deck support, on August 3. It will be available on PS5 on September 2. An
