If you’re a fan of retro gaming, then Capcom has some news that should excite you. Within the next few months, they will be releasing the first six original Mega Man games in a legacy bundle for the PS4, PC, Xbox One, and will later release a 3DS version. The collection will be available digitally for $14.99.
In addition to the six games, Capcom will also be including new challenges and extras in the collection. These include image galleries with concept art, leaderboards, replays, and challenge levels. A Mega Man museum and database will also be included in the collection, making this bundle a must have for any fan of Mega Man.
The team at Digital Eclipse are overseeing the project, using their own eclipse engine to rebuild the games from their original source elements. Gameplay will be in 1080p but the presentation of the games will hold true to their original form from years ago. Head of restoration for Digital Eclipse, Frank Cifaldi, said:
“Movies have the Criterion Collection, but there hasn’t been anything like that for games. We’re living in the golden age of a brand new form of artistic expression, and we’re not doing a very good job of making sure our games will be available five years from now, let alone fifty. The more we can do right now to take video game preservation seriously, the safer our history will be.”
The Mega Man Legacy Collection joins other franchises from Capcom in being re-released in today’s world, following on the footsteps from the remastered Resident Evil, and the incoming remaster of Resident Evil Zero. Capcom has admitted they are looking to past titles to reintroduce to a new audience, and for those who have played them on their original consoles, there’s nothing wrong with revisiting old gaming memories.
Stay tuned for E3, where more gameplay will be shown, followed by the game in playable form at San Diego Comic Con.
