Prince Harry‘s continuous rift with the royal family has them pointing fingers at his business-oriented wife, Meghan Markle. Harry and Meghan stepped back from their royal duties five years ago and moved to California in pursuit of a quieter life for themselves and their kids. However, the pair made their royal exit with a resounding bang, leveling bombshell allegations against the royals. These scathing revelations about the institution focused on the royal family’s ill treatment of Meghan, as well as insinuations of racism against her during her short royal stint.
These allegations, coupled with the fact that Harry’s decision to “abandon” his family came barely two years after Meghan became a part of his life, led to widespread conviction that his wife championed the scandalous royal exit, now infamously dubbed “Megxit” to reflect that theory. Five years later, the theory remains in full bloom despite Meghan appearing to take a step back from discussing matters concerning the royal family.
Royal Family Blames Meghan For Harry’s Damaging Actions
Unlike his wife, Prince Harry has failed to let go of those grievances and has continued to spotlight the royal rift in interviews. The reluctance to let go has the duchess concerned for her husband. Reports claim that despite Meghan Markle’s wishes for her husband to “feel less burned by the past,” and turn his focus to the post-royal life they share in California, she remained a supportive wife and stood firmly by Prince Harry’s side as he confronts his familial rift in his own way.
Speaking to Fox News Digital, royal expert Hilary Fordwich explained that the prince’s continuous desire to dwell in the past was rooted in his “unresolved personal grievances and out of touch desire for pubic accountability.” Fordwich noted that this desire has further damaged the prince’s chances of reconciling with his family thanks to his vocal approach. Sadly, Meghan Markle, who has been more hands-off about the royal rift in recent years, often has to take the fall for Prince Harry’s actions. Fordwich explained,
“The senior royals now view that as totally out of the question. The royal family’s lack of trust in Meghan Markle is… rooted in the perception that she catalyzed the current rift, regardless of Harry being more vocal.”
According to Fordwich, it did not help that Meghan Markle was valiantly trying to grow her business empire in California. In fact, the royal family feels threatened by that very idea, knowing the budding entrepreneur could say anything “in an attempt to win the public over,” even if it meant dragging the institution in the mud. As a result, the royal family has no trust in either Prince Harry or Meghan Markle, as the rift keeps thriving.
Harry and Meghan’s Past Works Against Them in Royal Rift

Royal expert Richard Fitzgerald believes that this lack of trust in the Sussexes was well-placed, considering their many shortcomings over the years, with numerous instances serving as a reminder. He divulged,
“As a couple, I think they have a close partnership. Harry is a product of his background and will inevitably have deep links to the past. They should have a dynamic future as they are members of the most high-profile royal family in the world. However, it is the mistakes they keep making that make this highly unlikely.”
After seemingly refraining from taking digs at the royal family following bombshell revelations in his 2023 memoir, Spare, Prince Harry spun the narrative yet again with his unexpected BBC interview last month. The 40-year-old blamed his dad for the loss of his battle for UK security. In the same interview, Harry revealed that he was open to a reconciliation with his family, but the King kept refusing to speak to him. The interview has sparked backlash, with many condemning Harry for making the wrong move in a fit of rage after losing his battle over UK security. Meanwhile, Meghan Markle has remained mum on the subject, silently standing by her husband while pursuing her own entrepreneurial and entertainment dreams.
