Meghan Markle, Duchess of Sussex, has been spotted for the first time since the Royal Family was thrown into turmoil by King Charles’s cancer diagnosis days ago. After the news broke, Prince Harry – who was one of the only royals not living in the UK – had to rush to Buckingham Palace from his and Meghan’s home in Los Angeles. Now, with Harry reportedly back home as of last night, Meghan was spotted on a low-key outing, sipping coffee as she drove around the grounds of their expansive LA home.
What Has Meghan Markle Been Up To Since King Charles’s Cancer Diagnosis?
On Monday morning, Buckingham Palace made the official announcement that King Charles III had been diagnosed with an unknown form of cancer and was undergoing treatment. At the same time, the Palace confirmed that the King had personally told both of his sons about the diagnosis and had been in contact with William, Prince of Wales. Prince Harry, however, was another matter, as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex had famously moved to LA during the worst of the scandal surrounding Meghan Markle and his decision to step back as a working member of the Royal Family. Still, the public was assured that Harry was on his way to visit his father.
The full details of Harry’s visit with Charles are available here, but all reports state that the meeting between father and son lasted less than an hour. Harry reportedly spent the night in a hotel, boarded a plane the next day, and was back in Los Angeles by Wednesday evening. His wife Meghan was notably absent during his trip, though it’s not clear if this was because of scheduling conflicts or her general history of igniting feuds within the Royal Family, which has likely earned her dislike in Bucking Palace.
In any case, Meghan remained in Los Angeles while Prince Harry made his impromptu trip to the UK, presumably keeping watch over their son Prince Archie, 4, and daughter Princess Lilibet, 2. Today, following Harry’s return home, the Duchess of Sussex was seen behind the wheel of her Range Rover, wearing a khaki baseball cap and a pair of oversized sunglasses. The Duke and Duchess have not yet made any sort of public statement regarding the diagnosis, but eyes are certainly on Harry and Meghan as the public wonders if King Charles’s cancer diagnosis will be enough to heal the rifts in the family or just serve to drive them farther apart.
