Samantha Markle, Meghan Markle‘s half-sister has her bit to say about the duchess’ 2018 royal wedding which neither she nor her daughter attended. In her documentary, Harry & Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex opened up about her close relationship with her niece Ashleigh Hale despite her continuous fallout with her half-sister. The two women, who met as adults quickly became BFFs, shunning their strained family dynamics. However, the familial differences eventually reared their head during Meghan’s wedding to Prince Harry.
Notably, neither Samantha Markle nor her daughter Ashleigh received invitations to Meghan Markle’s royal wedding. While Samantha’s absence was to be expected given her previous “slandering,” Ashleigh’s snub came as a shock to many. In her Netflix documentary, Meghan admitted exempting Ashleigh from the guest list was the toughest decision. Yet she had to do so to avoid the drama and negative press that could result from inviting a daughter, yet axing her mom from the wedding.
Admittedly, the duchess explained the situation to Ashleigh beforehand. Although she understood, the 38-year-old admittedly felt hurt, especially knowing it all happened because of her mom. She divulged in the documentary,
“I think I said I was hurt on some level, but I understood where it was coming from. To know that it was because of my biological mother that this relationship, that is so important to me, was impacted in that way. I feel like because of her, it was taken away. It’s been hard.”
Samantha is now speaking out about the royal wedding saga, exposing Meghan Markle’s “lies.” In a recent interview, Samantha claimed she felt surprised upon learning of the narrative being spun to make her daughter feel the royal wedding snub was her fault. Backing her claims, Samantha revealed an undisclosed royal insider told her Meghan had the sole right to that decision. She divulged,
“I heard from a royal insider who knows, that was up to up Meghan, so Meghan lied to my daughter which made my daughter feel begrudging of me.”
Going further, Samantha admitted that given Meghan Markle’s untruths, she understood why her daughter felt that way. Yet, she wanted the truth out on her own terms, calling out the duchess’ misleading lies for good. She said,
“That is not true, that is a lie. I found out that the royals did not say that, Meghan said that. She then lied to my daughter and made my daughter feel like it was something wrong with me that prevented her from going to the wedding.”
This is not the first time Samantha Markle has publicly called out her half-sister Meghan. Aside from various accusations she hauled against the duchess prior to the royal wedding, Samantha has continued “slandering” her. Earlier this year, the court dismissed a defamation lawsuit Samantha filed accusing Meghan of lying against her in the Netflix documentary, and during her 2021 Oprah interview. It would seem the disgruntled half-sister has more cards up her sleeves.
