Meghan Trainor is channeling full Barbie-core in a new Instagram photoshoot, but not everyone is here for it. The 30-year-old singer recently took to social media to share a series of bold, Barbie-inspired glam shots, complete with a voluminous blonde wig, platform lace-up boots, sparkling accessories, and plenty of pink.
In one image, she poses confidently on a rock surrounded by soft pink smoke, donning a pearl-embellished pink corset and cheeky lace bottoms. Another photo shows her lounging on a plush pink background in a fluffy faux fur coat, while a third captures a dreamy moment in the same coat against a powder-blue backdrop, her icy eyeshadow and dramatic hairstyle giving off full doll fantasy vibes.
The shoot quickly racked up likes and celebrity praise. Paris Hilton declared her an “icon,” while fans gushed over the visuals. “Are you KIDDING ME with that second picture OMG,” one user wrote. Another added, “The most gorgeous human! My bass bestie BADDIEEEE,” while others commented, “FR IS BARBIE OMG YOU’RE SO GORG.”
Fans Accuse Meghan Trainor of Going Against Her Own Lyrics
But the praise didn’t come without criticism. Some social media users accused the All About That Bass singer of hypocrisy, resurfacing her past lyrics that once challenged beauty standards associated with Barbie-like figures. In particular, the lyric “No I won’t be no stick figure, silicone Barbie doll” from her 2014 hit track drew attention.

“Stick figure Barbie doll now… those lyrics didn’t age too well,” one person wrote, while another commented, “Now you are like every other plastic girl.” A third said, “Sorry but I don’t like this Meghan. SO fake!!!” The backlash highlighted a deeper conversation about evolving beauty ideals and Trainor’s own role in body positivity versus the current aesthetic she’s leaning into.
Still, many fans came to her defense, pointing out that people, and their style choices, can evolve. Others argued that embracing Barbie-inspired glam doesn’t negate the core message of All About That Bass, which was always about self-love and empowerment. “Every time I get asked about, like, ‘How are you so confident?’ I’m like, ‘Oh, I’m not,’” Trainor said on the TODAY show earlier this year. “Writing these songs is just my therapy for trying to love myself more.”
She continued, “I’ve worked with a (dietitian), made huge lifestyle changes, started exercising with a trainer, and yes, I used science and support (shoutout to Mounjaro!) to help me after my 2nd pregnancy. And I’m so glad I did because I feel great.” Whether fans see it as a glow-up or a contradiction, Meghan Trainor clearly knows how to get people talking.
