New Yorkers aren’t exactly known for their patience, but these two drivers were certainly one of a kind. A Redditor managed to capture a scene where a Mercedes and an SUV were involved in a standoff on Manhattan Bridge. In the video, you can see the Mercedes intentionally blocking the path of a black SUV behind it. It wasn’t just a one-time thing—the car continuously blocked the one behind it, causing congestion. The black SUV driver even stepped out of his car several times in frustration.
As the camera pans out, you can see numerous cars stuck behind the standoff. Fortunately, one motorbike rider easily navigated past the scene, continuing on their way. The video lasted two minutes, and at one point, the SUV driver even threw an object at the Mercedes. The cameraman zoomed in for a close-up, revealing what appeared to be a Launch CRP123i—an OBD-II (On-Board Diagnostics) scan tool used for diagnosing vehicle issues.
Near the end of the video, the SUV driver steps out one last time and repeatedly punches the window of the Mercedes. Although it may seem like the driver had made their point, it didn’t take long for the Manhattan Bridge standoff to continue. The video ends with the two cars still entangled in their drama.
A True Menace
As for the identities of the two drivers, we don’t have any answers. The SUV didn’t have a license plate, but the Mercedes did. One Redditor searched the number on the How’s My Driving NY website and discovered that the Mercedes driver was a menace, racking up $10,000 in fines and 143 violations. “No car should have this many violations and still be on the road. Impound them and sell them out of state. F*** these people,” one Redditor commented.
Some commenters noted that the Mercedes driver was bold to mess with the SUV driver, especially since the SUV had no plates. “Plateless black Infiniti with tints. I guarantee the coupe hit the Mercedes and was trying to run. PLATELESS probably knew that the Manhattan Bridge, with cops on both ends, was not the place to shoot someone,” one user remarked.
Many criticized the Mercedes driver for their selfish actions that disrupted numerous other drivers on the Manhattan Bridge that day. This standoff was certainly a unique road rage tantrum that caused significant trouble. “Imagine how selfish you’d have to be to hold up all the traffic going over the bridge, absolutely wild entitlement,” one user said. Others, however, found the video hilarious, finding the SUV driver’s mounting frustration amusing. “Happiest car driver in NYC,” another joked.
