Intentionally or not, Konami has dropped hints suggesting a possible remaster of Metal Gear Solid 4, which has gotten fans hopeful. The recent unveiling of the Metal Gear Solid Collection Vol. 1, and the later unveiling of the Nintendo Switch version, sparked speculation about potential future re-releases. This raised hopes for a Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots remaster, a game that has remained exclusive to the PS3 since its launch. But there have been no real MGS4 remaster leaks until now.
While it used to be conjecture, certain new information has come to light that makes it a lot more believable, although still with a healthy helping of salt. Eagle-eyed users at ResetEra have discovered an intriguing detail on Konami’s official website. The pre-order page for the Metal Gear Solid Master Collection features a manual for the first Metal Gear Solid, and curiously, it includes a screenshot from Metal Gear Solid 4. While this alone isn’t much, the accompanying evidence is quite convincing.
MGS4 Remaster Leaks From Konami’s Website
The Konami website includes an extensive interactive ‘History’ page that chronicles the entire Metal Gear Solid timeline. Currently, the interactive buttons are limited to the games featured in the Metal Gear Solid Master Collection. However, upon inspecting the background code of the page, placeholder buttons for Metal Gear Solid 4, Peace Walker, and even Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain can be seen. This makes it more likely that all the aforementioned games will be on Vol. 2 of the Metal Gear Solid Collection if and when it ever materializes.
Despite the signs, it is worth noting that the Metal Gear Solid Collection might not be the indicator of Metal Gear Solid 4. Developing games for the PS3 was notoriously challenging and porting it may be nigh impossible. Surprisingly, it was confirmed that Metal Gear Solid 4 was working smoothly on Xbox 360. It remains to be seen if Konami is willing to invest substantial resources in resurrecting this long-lost game.
