The musical group GENTLE LOVE, which is comprised of pianist AYAKI and Metal Gear Solid and Bayonetta composer Norihiko Hibino, has released a 2 song set known as PRESCRIPTION for PEACE: A tribute to the departed. The songs, available for purchase here, include Onette, a tribute to late CEO of Nintendo Satoru Iwata, and Sincerely Yours, a tribute to Eiki Oshimi, a renowned musician from the Niigata area of Japan.
Onett is a cover of the Onett theme from Earthbound while Sincerely Yours is an original piece. In the artist’s own words Mr. Iwata “was a gamer who loved this industry and whose impact will be felt for many years to come”. As for Mr. Oshimi he “was responsible for bringing innovation in music” to the Niigata area of Japan and he “acted as mentor ” to GENTLE LOVES Norihiko Hibino.
These songs are being sold for $1 to cover licensing fees to Nintendo and distribution fees to their digital distributors. According to the duo “Any additional revenues generated will be donated to the American Cancer Society in Iwata-san and Oshimi-san’s memories.”
As for the deceased, Satoru Iwata passed away on July 11, 2015, due to a growth in his bile duct. Eiki Oshimi passed a mere six days later on July 17, 2015.
