Raising your MR Rank in Monster Hunter World: Iceborne is quite a chore, but it’s one of your top priorities. Sure, higher rank doesn’t mean you’re a hunting god. But you do need to get to MR 100 to unlock Tempered Elder Dragons in Guiding Lands, and Health Regen Augments for your weapons as well. Some of the harder quests are also locked behind higher ranks.
The key to raising your MR Rank quickly is to look for quests that have multiple monsters in it. These quests have a “health reduction multiplier,” making monsters weaker based on the number of monsters in the quest. And here are three Iceborne event quests that will give you the most MR Rank XP.
‘Colorful Carnival’ – Fills Up More Than Half the Rank Bar
Even if it’s unlocked pretty early at MR 6, this is arguably the best event quest to grind your MR Rank. Why? Because of how easy it is, you only have to fight monsters like Kulu-Ya-Ku, Tzitzi-Ya-Ku, Pukei-Pukei, and Coral Pukei-Pukei. You also don’t have to chase them around the map, making your job easier. You should be able to finish it in 15 to 18 minutes. Less if you use traps, Dragonator, Boulder Trap, and abusable meta sets.
And most importantly, this is a four monsters quest with bonus XP. Other MR 1 to MR 3 event quests that give out bonus MR Rank XP only has two target monsters and take place in the usual wide, open maps. Running around looking for them wastes your time, and in the end, since there are only two targets, they give you less XP for basically taking the same amount of time as fighting four weak monsters in a small arena.
‘We Three Kings’ – Fills Up Almost One Bar
If you’ve gotten to MR 19 and above, you could try fighting Kirin, Kushala Daora, and Teostra in this quest. Both Kirin and Teostra aren’t that hard when their health is reduced in multi-monster quests like this. Kushala will always take the most of your time since it can’t stop flying around and shooting out annoying tornadoes. Don’t forget to eat for Elemental Resistance and just keep whacking their heads in for K.O. damage. It should only take you about 17 to 20 minutes. You could also try ‘The Winter Blues’ if you’re not confident enough to fight Elder Dragons in the cramped Arena.
Iceborne Crown Hunting Event Quests – Fills Up Around One and a Half Bars
Event quests that give you a higher chance to get Giant or Small Gold Crowns are also a good choice to spice up your MR Rank grinding. They all give the same amount of XP:
- ‘Yodeling in the Forest’: Anjanath, Rathalos, Nargacuga, Yian-Garuga, Rajang.
- ‘Heavy Metal in the Waste’: Jyuratodus, Nightshade Paolumu, Glavenus, Black Diablos, Savage Deviljho.
- ‘Symphony of the Coral’: Paolumu, Legiana, Coral Pukei-Pukei, Odogaron, Zinogre.
- ‘Rotten Canzone’: Great Girros, Odogaron, Tigrex, Fulgur Anjanath, Acidic Glavenus.
- ‘Ballad of the Hoarfrost’: Beotodus, Viper Tobi-Kadachi, Barioth, Shrieking Legiana, Stygian Zinogre.
In each quest, you have to fight five different monsters. Sounds tough, but remember, there is a health reduction multiplier for multi-monsters quests like these. In the picture above, I’m using Hunting Horn, a weapon I’m still not experienced with. Plus, there’s Yian-Garuga and Rajang, so it took quite a bit longer to finish. Pick the ones without harder monsters like Rajang or Deviljho, use your best sets, and it should take about 20-25 minutes to clear one.
