It used to be that studios would wait to see how the first movie did before working on its sequel. But with people trying to set up cinematic universes all over the place, studios are increasingly planning sequels to movies that haven’t been released yet. And it would seem that the new Assassin’s Creed movie as, according to tracking-board.com, Michael Fassbender is already on board.
The, still unreleased, first movie is set in the same setting as the games but is an original story. It covers Callum Lynch (Michael Fassbender’s character) discovering that his 15th-century Spanish Ancestor was an Assassin and drawing on his heritage to fight the modern day Templars.
Michael Fassbender, who also has a producer credit for the movie, is speculated to be the source of New Regency’s confidence in their success by tracking -board, who believe that they are banking on Fassbender’s popularity to help success. Tracking-board also notes;
“The hefty $125 million budget, which includes financing from co-financiers like Alpha Pictures International and Brett Ratner’s RatPac Entertainment, is all the more reason to get started on a sequel, as Regency Enterprises, distributor 20th Century Fox and the bevy of investors involved will want to pounce any momentum that the film finds at the box office.”
Assassin’s Creed hits cinemas, December 21st, 2016.
