Michael J Fox’s Battle With Parkinson’s Disease
In a preview of an upcoming episode of CBS Sunday Morning, 61-year-old Michael J Fox shocked many with his statement. He said, “I am not gonna be 80.” Journalist Jane Pauley told Fox in the clip that he has “not squandered,” but the sickness would “make the call” about when he would go. The Back to the Future star agreed with what Jane Pauley said; he affirmed it, saying that it is banging on the door.
He added that there was no need to lie because it had gotten tougher. Before this time, he had surgery to remove a benign tumor on his spine but, unfortunately, the surgical process impacted his walking and he started breaking his body which included his arm, elbow, body, and face.
According to him, the “big killer” of Parkinson’s disease is falling and can also be aspirating food and getting pneumonia. He stated that it was through these ways that it gets its patient. Fox was quick to point out that “one does not die from Parkinson,” but rather, they die with it. He admitted that he had been thinking about the mortality (death) part of it.
Fox Has Been Battling With Parkinson’s Since Age 29
Per Page Six, the T.V. personality was diagnosed with the ailment when he was 29. Since then, he has devoted himself as a leading advocate for the research of his condition. In 2000, he even launched the Michael J Fox Foundation to educate the public and fund research to help fight Parkinson’s.
Two years ago, the Secret Of My Success star revealed that he is not afraid of death anymore. He shared that he was very blunt with people who ask about the cure for relieving Parkinson’s disease. Fox noted that he was 60 years old, but science was hard, so there was no cure.
“I am genuinely a happy guy. I don’t have a morbid thought in my head, and I don’t fear death at all.” Fox said in an AARP magazine profile in 2021. Meanwhile, Fox’s full interview with CBS Sunday Morning will air on the 30th of April at 9 a.m. E.T.
