In May of 2018 Christopher Miller and Phil Lord hope to bring us a film about the young Han Solo. The as of yet untitled space western will star Alden Ehrenreich as the titular Han, while Donald Glover will play the familiar Lando Calrissian and Joonas Suotamo will play Solo’s faithful friend Chewbacca. We’ve now gathered news that The Wire’s Michael K Williams is also in discussions to star in the film. Variety claims that the actor is amidst, “Final talks,” with producers. Williams starred in The Wire as Omar Little, but has also had parts in Boardwalk Empire, Ghostbusters and Assassin’s Creed.
At this point there are no other details about William’s role. Other characters, starring in the film with yet to be announced roles include, Woody Harrelson, Emilia Clarke, Thandie Newton and Phoebe Waller-Bridge. The film is currently set to release on May 25th 2018, a few months after The Last Jedi. If all goes to plan, both films will do just as well, if not better than the insanely successful Rogue One.
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story released December 16th 2016 to critical and commercial acclaim. As of January 1st 2017, Rogue One was the second highest grossing film in the United States for 2016. Surpassing Captain America: Civil War’s 408.1 million but still behind Finding Dory’s 486.3 million. Disney is surely happy with the current heavyweights of last year, as they are all licenses owned by them. Other films Rogue One surpassed include, Deadpool, The Secret Life of Pets and The Jungle Book. So with several Marvel properties on the way, such as Guardians of the Galaxy 2, their live adaptation of Beauty and the Beast coming soon, and two Star Wars films in the works, Disney has a lot in the pipeline. Making 2017 and 2018 potentially just as profitable. For everything on the Han Solo films cast and the success of the Star Wars series, stay tuned to Thenerdstash.
