Unfortunately, there are a lot of dads out there who don’t care about their kids following separation from their partners. You would think they would want to be there for their kids, but some don’t think that way at all. One example is that of a Michigan father whose smug attitude was on display during a court hearing. He was informed that he had to pay $515 in child support, and his immediate response was to refuse. “Does money come free?” he asked the judge while having an obnoxious smile. He then stated that he doesn’t have physical custody. “Give me physical custody and pay me $500 a month,” he continued.
If you thought that the Michigan father wouldn’t get any more annoying, you would be wrong. He wanted to file an objection because he didn’t like the amount of the child support he was required to pay. He then asked the judge how he expected him to pay rent, his car payment, and “pay for him.” Yes, he was talking about his kid this way. Instead of feeling grateful that he gets to see his kid 48 days a year, he thought about the money he spends on his son when he has him. This is the kind of father who keeps telling their kids that they cost too much. Plus, those 48 days were part of the agreement he and his partner had. So he agreed to this; it wasn’t the court’s fault.
It kept getting worse. Apparently, the guy thought he could spend less than $515 if he had full custody, since he asked for it. What year does he think we live in? He was determined not to pay for his kid, so he wondered what would happen if he didn’t pay. When he was informed that he could go to jail, his response was “I’ll sit in jail for a couple hundreds that’s cool.” One of the women present at the hearing started shaking her head in disbelief. “I’d rather sit in jail than pay you that,” the guy continued. I have to applaud the judge for having the patience to tell him that he would still owe the money even if he went to jail.
When the judge informed the Michigan father that he could stay in jail for up to 90 days, he didn’t care. It was “easy” for him. He was then informed that he could lose his passport and license. It’s not surprising, at this point, that he didn’t care too much. “I don’t care. I will drive without one,” he added. The video ended with him informing the judge that the law doesn’t “bug” him at all. I feel bad for his son, who has to spend 48 days with someone who has this kind of behavior.
People Reacting to the Michigan Dad’s Attitude
It is safe to say that no one enjoyed what the Michigan dad said. People didn’t just find him annoying but they also questioned his intelligence. This is why one person wrote, “Big fan of the way he tried to just be like ‘I have to pay her? Well then I want full custody.’ I’m sure you do you empty-headed brainlet.” Another person replied, “Lmao at him thinking raising a child full time would cost less that 500 a month.” Others joked that the dad won’t be affected by the consequences of losing his passport. “‘You could lose your passport…’ Yeah, this guy doesn’t come across as a big international traveler…,” one Redditor said.
A lot of people also felt bad for the Michigan dad’s kid. “This guy doesn’t give a [expletive] about his kid. He only cares about the money. The amount isn’t even that much compared to most people paying child support,” one person wrote. Someone else believed that the man’s words in the hearing would not help him. “He’s gonna have zero time with the kids now thst he told a judge to his face tjat he doesnt believe he should have any responosbilty for them, and he’ll still have to pay. This is a lose-lose for him,” they said. I don’t think he would care about anything that happened to him, as long as he didn’t have to pay $515 for HIS kid.
