A woman in Michigan received an unexpected and fishy visitor at her door while working from home. Her neighbor was at the entrance, claiming that the family or whoever lives in her house had stolen his dogs. Having no idea what he was on about, she denied his claims and shooed him off before returning to work. Two hours later, she received the rude awakening of a fist pounding on her door during a work meeting. This time, it was four cops saying that she was accused of dog theft based on her race and appearance.
“A bunch of s—,” the Michigan woman said in her Reddit post about the male Karen neighbor accusing her of stealing his dogs. “I’m at WORK. I’m not doing s—. I don’t have any f—ing dogs, and I don’t run with thieves.” She continued, saying that the same guy who stole his dogs lives in her house, and “a woman, who vaguely (race-wise) fits my description, was with him.” Going off of a culprit’s looks skeptically based on race alone shows what kind of annoying neighbor she’s dealing with.
The Michigan remote worker went on to say that the police told her that the case would be treated as a robbery and that a detective would be contacting her to do an investigation. A dog theft is a pretty weird allocation of local police resources to include a detective’s investigation. On top of that, it goes without saying that it’s incredibly odd for four police officers to show up at the door for something so petty. Regardless, the whole incident had the woman hopelessly “scared and frazzled.” So, she went to Reddit, namely r/legaladvice, to ask for guidance.
Dozens of the post’s comments repeat the same thing: She should not let the police or anyone into her house or tell the cops anything. After all, they are trained to lie in order to fish out a confession from criminals. “Police are always after a tiny crack, where they can bully, intimidate, make false accusations, legally lie to you, give unlawful commands, absolutely disregard your civil rights,” states a user. “Police care only to prosecute, arrest, and collect.”
“People are dumb and unpredictable,” the Michigan woman remarked, referring to how she couldn’t trust the man or the police since they were fed misinformation. Over two thousand Redditors agreed that she should not talk to anyone without a lawyer. And if she does end up having to speak, then a simple yet straightforward statement like “I don’t know who this guy is, I never took any dogs, no one in this house took any dogs, there are no dogs in this house,” would suffice, according to multiple commenters.
Hopefully, the whole incident will blow over with no more trouble from either the police or the pesky neighbor. Still, it was very excessive for four cops to approach a woman to interrogate her about someone’s missing dogs.
