Michigan Sen. Candidate Haley Stevens Slammed After Debate With El-Sayed: ‘She is another Dem puppet owned by AIPAC’

Michigan Democratic Senate candidates Haley Stevens and Abdul El-Sayed recently debated on Fox 2 WJBK. The debate revolved around issues such as campaign funding and transparency, and some of Stevens’ responses irritated Michigan residents, who complained about her online.

As reported by Michigan Advance, transparency became a prevalent issue during the debate. El-Sayed attacked Stevens, linking her funding to organizations such as the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC). Stevens, on the other hand, criticized El-Sayed for being a “millionaire” because his property is valued at over $2 million.

Personal attacks were also reported to have escalated between the candidates, with policy taking a backseat as Stevens accused El-Sayed of engaging in divisive rhetoric. He defended himself by portraying Stevens as too closely aligned with corporate and establishment interests.

Michigan Residents React to Debate

When discussing the debate, many Michigan residents sided with El-Sayed on Reddit’s r/Michigan. One user said: “One is paid by Israel, and the other earned his money. For perspective, 1 million in 2000 is worth almost 2 million today. The inflation the billionaires put on us means he’s not as rich as some might think he is.”

Others slammed Stevens for how she acted during the debate: “Haley Stevens openly lied on the debate stage about receiving DTE funding. She will do anything to win.” Someone else said: “I think her receiving money from the companies who keep lobbying to raise our bills is enough to turn me off from voting for her, completely ignoring that she lied about it. I don’t want another Whitmer letting the utility companies lining her pockets have free control.”

One of the main issues surrounding the more centrist Democratic candidate was her ties to AIPAC, which were highlighted even by people who did not seem to be El-Sayed supporters: “Hate that she is another Dem puppet owned by AIPAC. Hate that he has investments in Dubai and the UAE. Always sketched out by ‘consulting fees,’ I’m sure she has those too.”

What irritated some other voters was how little the debate focused on actual policies: “The first time she mentioned a future policy was like 45 minutes in. And the fact-checking was really informative. She needs better plans and tactics, and writers. I can’t believe that’s what they sent her out there to talk about.”

With the Democratic primary election coming up on August 4, Democrats will choose their nominee, and attacks from both sides will likely continue until then.
