Microsoft Flight Simulator has been regarded by many to be the truly best way to experience our real world in a video game, let alone fly around it with realistic controls. With many regions having detailed designs, including some more notable monuments, fans have plenty to explore and fly around as they test out everything from small seaplanes to jumbo jets. If that wasn’t enough for you, and you’re hungering for more, today’s news should excite you. At Gamescom 2021, Microsoft Flight Simulator teased some exciting new updates over the next few months. Details of which you can find below.

World Update VI

In the next World Update, set to release on September 7, the team will be overhauling the regions of Germany, Australia, and Switzerland. With some fresh aerial imagery and high-resolution textures, these three countries should look more realistic than ever before. In particular, the team is promising several new 3D versions of cities in Germany, Basel in Switzerland, and Graz & Vienna in Austria. These include roughly 100 famous locations, including anything from airports to famous landmarks.

Local Legend I: Junkers JU-52

The new Local Legend series of releases in Microsoft Flight Simulator brings exciting new updates in the form of planes that locals of countries are plenty familiar with. In their first edition, the team is introducing Germany’s Junkers JU-52 (otherwise known as “Tante JU” and “Aunt JU”). With an extremely high level of detail, plane enthusiasts from Germany are sure to appreciate the work that went into the authenticity of this plane. If you want one for yourself, you can pick up the Junkers JU-52 on September 7 at $14.99.

Volocopter

While the Microsoft Flight Simulator team is looking to the past with some of their new updates, they’re also looking to the bright future of aviation. One of those initiatives partners with the makers of the VoloCity air taxi, known otherwise as Volocopter, to introduce this unique vehicle in the game. The team behind this air taxi looks to bring a new form of transportation to the world, one that’s sustainable and runs entirely on electricity. This unique vehicle will debut in Microsoft Flight Simulator in December.

Reno Air Races

And last, but certainly not least, the Microsoft Flight Simulator team is partnering with the Reno Air Racing Association to bring their STIHL National Championship Air Races to the game. As the first major expansion to the game, players will be able to race their friends or other pilots around the world, in the pursuit of flying stardom. The Reno Air Races expansion will make its debut in Microsoft Flight Simulator this fall.
