The Elder Scrolls VI is one of the most anticipated games ever, and based on recent comments by Todd Howard we have a rough release window of when it might make it to consoles and PC. Well, at least we thought so. As it turns out, the game might very well be on the way sooner. The ongoing trial between Microsoft and the FTC regarding the Activision Blizzard acquisition has resulted in a Microsoft representative disclosing that the potential release window for The Elder Scrolls VI is sometime around 2026.
Microsoft’s Lawyer on Release Window For The Elder Scrolls VI
During the trial regarding the Activision Blizzard purchase, according to DSO gaming a Microsoft lawyer unveiled that the sixth installment in the series is targeting a release date in 2026. This revelation may appear somewhat implausible, considering previous statements suggested a minimum of five years until the players get their hands on the game. Bethesda is currently hard at work on Starfield right now, which is scheduled to debut in a few months. Because of this, Bethesda probably hasn’t gone full-force on The Elder Scrolls VI development just yet and is therefore offering a conservative estimate. Or perhaps the lawyer doesn’t know what they’re talking about? We wouldn’t be surprised given they called it The Elder Scrolls 16 during the trial:
“Could I clarify one issue that the council raised with you, when you were asking about Zenimax and asked him to find a game that was most similar to Xbox, he mentioned Elder Scrolls. That is incorrect. There are two Elder Scrolls games, one is online called Elder Scrolls Online — that is a multiplayer game, it is on PlayStation today. The game he’s talking about Elder Scrolls 16… the projected release is 2026 as a single-player game. It is not anywhere similar to Call of Duty, which as you know is multiplayer and multi-platform.”
So, take it with a pinch of salt. Still, some leaks and speculations from last year surrounding a release window spanning from 2025 to 2026 for the game lend credence to the Microsoft lawyer’s statement. Crafting vast open-world role-playing games is getting increasingly time-intensive. As mentioned before, Todd Howard, a longstanding member of Bethesda that has played a pivotal role in the company’s biggest titles, shared that The Elder Scrolls VI is likely to be his final endeavor in terms of making games. So it’s safe to assume it is a very high priority.
The Elder Scrolls VI is currently in active development, and an official release date is yet to be confirmed. But wherever it is, we’ll be the first to let you know, so stay tuned to The Nerd Stash.
